A coily is a sierra. Sierras are easy to fit with 31's. Gearing is easy too. Just fit a leafy case with gears. Its not alot of work at all.

Given that the jimny is newer, you will get more bang for your buck with a coily.

i'd much prefer my coily over a jimny anyday. coily with a g16b, blow away any twin cam jimny. and if you find yourself outdriven by a coily with all your extra upgrades, who's gay then!!!!

I'm not at all certain on this, but I have a strong suspicion that the Early Jimny case (Non-VVT) is the same case as used in the SJ80. Both have the same ratios and basic arrangement. I don't have any parts lists or technical info on the Jimny, but why would Suzuki create an entirely unique transfer case for one model run that lasted a year or two?
Does anybody have a Coily and Jimny tranfer cases they can compare?
If they are the same, then the APIO and Trail Jimny gearsets will also fit the Coily. This doesn't make them any cheaper than fitting a gear driven case from a leafy, but it's an option.

Personally, i would take the 97 coily over the coily Jimny any day ! Personally I'd buy a 97 vitara over both of these heaps of shit.
If it was a choice between a 97 Coily, a Jimny, and a 97 Vitara, i would also take a 97 Vitara !

How hard is it to put a leafy transfer case into a coily? does it just swap straight in?

or, get an LJ if you've got real balls

You will need the Leafy case, mounts and jack shaft. Then it is a bolt in job

Agreed.
I would not discount buying a coily due to lack of gearing options, when it is so easy to swap in a leafy transfercase. Its just not a good enough reason to buy a Jimny IMO

Like what?? pretty sure there are few different options for bar work? air lockers, lift kits like the Off Road Armory kit, upgraded CV's, transfer gears from APIO & the other mob that i can't remember their name + basic spring lifts from the regular brands like OME, TD etc all off the shelf. can you even get gears for a coily case? : how long was the build run on the SJ80? apio gears cost heaps....
leafy transfer swap would be cheaper (at least better value) and give you more options when it comes to bigger rubber as apio gears only change low range.

Kinda what I was getting at...sure coily's have their weak points, but if you are willing enough to persevere with things they are easy enough to mod
