For those that dislike the auto lockers.....What type have you had? Was it one with the side couplers or one that uses your own side gears?

Starting to realise that most people that hate lockrights have had the one that uses the side couplers. They seem to be harder to get to unlock and make lots of noise when they finally do release.

Ive had lockrights in front and rear of my sierra and for what they cost they are awsome. will be putting them in front and back of the GV.

You know whats cheaper than a lockright? Welded. Or a spool. And both of these are more consistant and reliable than an auto locker.

I'd agree in a Sierra.
Vitaras are much heavier, and a bit wider.
Traction is much more severe.
I think a spools could be a problem for breakage and tyre wear.
Just a theory,
Have only used welded and autos in Sierras,
my Vit came with a lock rite in rear.

Am loving my Auto lockers so far.

I don't know what all the fuss is about. I run a Spartan locker in my rear, and I've never had a problem with it, i hardly notice any difference on the road and it's very predictable in it's operation. While it's not a lockrite, it's still an auto locker

I got one of each, lock rite rear and spartan up front, very happy.
Tho I would consider a cable operated (OX?) locker if they ever make them for vits

I ran a sparten in the back, then went twins and now front only. I had nothing but issues with the rear one, whice in the end turned out due to poor manufacturing of the locker. Twins it went everywhere but got boring. With only the front in, and set up well it works very good. More capable than just one in the rear aswell. Steering is heavy and has led to a steering failure(we can blame that on poor maintenance). But once you learn to drive with it shit doesnt get too out of hand.

As far as im concerned, a welded diff would be better on road in the rear of a sierra than an autolocker. I have seen autos work well in heavy vehicles, a hell of alot better than zook. I also think a autolocker will in the long run put more stress on drivetrain components than a spool.. My gearbox was having issues with the rear locker binding up and suddenly releasing, instead of a constant load.

But all my experiances were with a sub standard auto locker...
