I think from the responses to this question that the camp is definitely divided.

I'm really keen to see some of the options that are available, not just opinions for and against. If any of you have pics of your home made or off the shelf kits, please share. I've found some kits on-line but keen to hear of more.

In regard to opinions I think there's enough feedback to move on to actual application.

Cheers.
Paul

Hey man, I know the lads are saying the twin stick stuff is a PITA, which I'd imagine it is, however if you're still thinking about the Twisted TT kit, remember it's just one stick and the only change you will find is that the lever moves more. I have no problem with this in my Sierra even with a 50mm body lift, however I only have the lower boot (upper boot was missing before I bought the car as someone has carpeted the interior) so there's bugger all pressure on it.

When engaging the gears, you get a positive click, and the lever stays in place in 2H or 4L, it moves back to the middle in 2L or 4H but it's still a positive click to get it to engage.
When you go to change ratios, you will soon learn that you come out of either high or low range into neutral, then move the stick to the left for 2-4 selection, select either 2wd or 4wd and then shift back to the right and forward or back to select high or low.

What this means in the real world, is that you can no longer shift from 2H to 4H or vice versa while moving. This shouldn't really be an issue though unless you need to do it all the time?

Also, if you're down on the Gold Coast at all, you're welcome to come and have a look/drive to see how it all works. I'm not trying to sell you one by any means, just trying to help you with info to make the decision rather than just giving my opinion.

Good luck :)

Cheers. I don't get down the coast all that often but appreciate the offer and the info. I'm almost certain I'll be going ahead with some kind of 2 Low option, would still like to play around with the twin just because I can. If it's really that crap I'll strip it out and go twisted instead. From what I can tell from all of above the twisted kit requires opening the case so pulling the detent ball for a home made twin won't really matter if I swap to twisted.

I need to mod my lever anyway to fit the case in my Jimny, so what's a few more mods :D

I have a twin stick setup in my case here, and the case it out at the moment I will try to get some pictures of it for you. My twin stick levers were made out of modified U-bolts.

I don't understand the install portion, my case comes in and out easy as. The sticks are close together. They an also be made to engage and disengage positively.

The major benefit is when you are locked with a lunch box locker instead of an ARB. ARB's are not popular in the states for zook axles, so the twin stick is almost a necessity. We run spools in the rear, and lockers up front.

2 wheel low saves a lot of bind and torque on the drive train too.

We do alot of technical stuff here that does not necessarily need four wheel drive, but the control of two wheel low is very nice.

In some situations (snow and ice), 2wd low is a beautiful thing. $ wheel high is too fast, and locked in 4 wheel drive is not a lot of fun. The rear of the vehicule tends to want to pass the front, and steering just doesn;t work with the front locked on snow and ice. So I step it down to 2 wheel low, and creep along. When I get stopped I pop it into 4 wheel and out I go.

Towing is pretty cool with a twinstick too, because you get a true neutral. We flat tow our zooks allot, so a true neutral saves us from pulling the drive shaft.

Of course turning in tight wooded areas are very nice with a twin stick, where other guys are making 5 and 7 point turns to get around a tree, I pop it in 2 wheel low, turn, and pop it back in.

There's more to do with a twin stick if you do a lot of technical tight trails, but that is the gist of it.

Now that's an answer. Looking forward to seeing some pics.

Thought so. I googled twisted and recognized the cool knob. Now I see they have a matching knob for the gear shift. Bling!

The twisted T is a really nice setup, especially because you keep the detent balls.

I've got both Gear and Transfer knob here. Don't know how long the printed H pattern will last though.
