just wondering has anyone removed there emmissions controll system. is it possible and is it worth it.

in alot of car's removing the emissions makes a big difference to power and engine bay neatness/simplicity

in a lot of cars without cats that relied on other tricks to pass

the emission system in a sierra consists of a charcoal cannister, its job is to collect fuel vapour that builds up in the tank when its hot and trap it and return the fuel back later, so a useful thing to have

The other thing it has is an EGR system, under certain conditions (cruising along in a high gear) it allows some exhaust into the intake to reburn, this has a huge effect on some noxious gas that I cant remember the name of, so much so they are using it in Diesels now, wont matter squat what you do with that cause its only active when you arent worried about power and likely the port in the head for it is blocked with carbon anyway

i am thinking the same thing. but with all the oxegen sensors every were idk weather its worth unplugging electrics like that haha. just found the dirty big black box under the glove box that has EMISSIONS CONTROLL SYSTEM STAMED IN IT. the two pugs (both with about 10 leads in it) will unplug from the box and plug together. thought it might have been that easy to increase power but if no one has tried i am having enough electrick, and fuel issues as it is.

This is a carby 1.3l. Well, that has me stumped, never seen any black box with wires all over, oxygen sensors on a carby, no idea what your talking about doh.

I don't have a sierra, I have a Maruti and a drover, neither has this.

The oxygen sensor you speak of, where is that.

I associate an oxygen sensor in the exhaust of a EFI motor not a carby.

Hmm, well, I just had a look, way up behind my glovebox is a little black box, it says "Emission Control (some part numbers and shit) Denso)".

Dunno what it does though...

Just looked at the wiring diagram... There is an engine controller which hooks up to the EGR switches amongst other thing, that may be it?

The ECM's in the sierra carby's here control the vacuum canister, the EGR, and mixture. The reason for the o2 sensor is to control mixture at cruise, change for altitude, and mixture for start and warm up.

The deal is, that emissions control device will lean out your engine at cruise (better mileage), start your car up easier than a choke, and save fuel there, and will lean it out when you get up in the mountains(more power and mileage).

If I remember right there is only a little solenoid on the carby that adds, or subtracts little bits of fuel. it does';t have the ability to manipulate the mixture very much, just enough to help the stuff I wrote about above.

I know you have different types of carby's, but if it has on O2 sensor, getting rid of tat black box, or the electrics will cost you a little (very little) fuel, and a little bit of power and drive ability at altitude.

The real bummer about our carby's though; they are so complicated that once they start running shit, you might as well throw them away, or take them to a specialist that specifically fixes them.

yeah idk if its what ur talking about but my sierra has a vacum line from the airbox that is attached to what i belive is some form of thermometere. the vacum line open and closes a gate that controlls were the air intake comes from. either hot air from over the exaust or cool air from the other side. suposedly this is to assist for called mornings. mine was locked onto hot perminently. i just unplugged it an chucked it in the shed. we have no mountains as such here, and compared to others. we dont realy have called weather so i didnt realy need it. pluss the webber has an auto choke in it aswell. hopfully gona piss the air box off all together soon. run the webber strait of the snorkle.
