OK thought I had lost spark but it turns out the pin locating the Cam pulley has gone AWOL.


Any suggestions on how to fix it?

My thoughts are find a tight fitting twist drill. Heat the end of the cam and guide it home with a hammer. Grind off the end at a suitable length.

or

Maybe locktight a drill in as the heat may effect the seal integrity.

I'll try and source a spare from another cam or suzuki and locktight it in.

I'd either fit a new pin or tap it and fit a bolt with head cut off after install.

Any engine reconditioning place, or even clutch place will have plenty of dowels lying around.

I wouldn't use the drill bit, as it is too brittle, however you can use the shank of the drill bit to figure out your required diameter.

All major fastener places also sell round stock in small lengths.

I have gone down the drill shank track path as it will be a tempory fix. I'm going to change the head soon.

I think why it came out was due to the pulley bolt not having the thick washer underneath it. I also attached the pulley using some 609 loctite on the mating surfaces. The pin itself should only be for locating the pulley for correct timing not taking any load of the cam shaft rotation.

Look at the bottom of the page, other issues caused this... (oil pickup was stupidly blocked)

So the cam ( being the last to get oil pressure) was seizing....

yup. still destroyed the cam gear good. And in the search for a new one, out of 4 that we found, only one didnt have similar damage (just not as bad)
