Hi all

I see lots of posts where people have fitted extractors and various exhausts to Jimny's. Mine is a 2010 model. Having a bit of trouble tracking down a supplier in Perth, preferably in the Cannington/South Perth area. Although Midland at a stretch.

Any recommendations?

Not the other $330 cus they are not the right ones.

Exhaust: Any Muffler center should be able to do one in 2", with high flow cat and hi-flow muffler.

mettams muffler in morley did mine, pretty cheap and thats a 2 inch pipe with a hot dog and extractors

not really... it would do the trick for early jimnys, but not sure if theyd do for current models

They have the little pipe coming of the last pipe and that's for the EGR thingy, which i don't think the early model extractors had

i went to see mettams in belmont, you're right about the price - very reasonable. seems like a decent bloke.

however i rang brian gardners, where - regrettably i bought the jimny - and they were rude and belligerent at the mere suggestion of fitting extractors, even argumentative! obviously it was a to show me the level of support and style of negotiation i would encounter if ever anything did go wrong.

but, seeing a i dont trust them one iota anyway i reckon i have nothing to lose. already with minor things they have been pretty poor. they treat suzuki buyers as 2nd class citizens, they are all about holdens

you bet, mine is fairly straight. nudge bar for spotties and aerial, cooper ATR's but it drew a group of people away from a HSV dunniedoor when it went in for its 1000km service. because it looked like a fun machine to drive - and it is

the HSV owner even remarked on it.

did you notice much difference? obviously you weren't worried about the warranty either.

all they want to do is extractors and high flow stainless steel muffler. apparently the rest of the system is stainless.

I got everything...extractors/hi flo cat/muffler/exhaust.

Sounds great. I got a hot dog as well to quieten things down (I'm old)

More noticeable after about 3 months after installation.

Seems to be better on hills (still sucks though) and better economy.

Every car I've owned I've had extractors/exhaust installed. (corolla, 323, 929turbo, 300ZX, Mustang, Skyline...and now the best of them all...The Jimny)

I am curious about the time lag, 3 months, I would have expected the difference to be immediate. i have fitted them to other cars too, but never a new one.

It took about 3 to 4 weeks till i noticed any noticable improvement... ahhh well, you see stock exhausts are very restrictive, they are designed to recirculate burnt exhaust gases... this can clog up the combustion chamber in deposits, that need to be cleaned out a bit first... but if yours is a fairly new engine, you may feel a difference straight away... also, the ECU remembers your driving habits, if you drive like a granny, it will remember, and you may not feel much difference, if you drive like you have a bit of a heavy foot, it remembers, and you will feel the difference more... i drove my GV like a granny when i first got it, then i had the sports system put on, it sounds so good now, i like to drive it at higher RPM's, and after 3 or 4 weeks, i noticed a big difference... also, if your feeding your Zook standard unleaded, i recommend switching to Premium Unleaded, the Zook engine loves it !
I also run some Fuel System Treatment every 3rd refill, it cleans the whole system, as well as the injectors...

The last car I really worked over was yonks ago, stroked 6 in a LC Torana.

I had a Sierra a few years back but the family out grew it. They have all gone now so I am back to a car that fits me What you said about the ECU makes sense. I don't thrash it, but I expect it to motivate.

As for fuel I always run it on 98 ULP.

Two recent trips, one to Newman and then out behind Southern Cross seem to have loosened the motor up. Went to the Die Hardy ranges behind Bullfinch, all rocks and sand. That made it work a bit. It went beautifully.

Well i am 49, very soon to be 50, ha ha... but i dont feel 50 !

Yep, 98 is better than Premium, but with fuel prices as they are, Premium is all i can afford...
Going on what i was told when i bought my first Sierra new, its short tips at high RPM, that are best for new motor, long trips at a constant speed, dont do much for a new engine... but yeah, in Low Range in the sand is good... So when are we gonna see you out on a trip ?

The sound obviously is immediate. I too drove live a granny originally and I suppose now I love the sound so much I tend to to hit 4,000 -> 4,500 RPM a hell of a lot more than I used to. haha.

And I've also used Hi Octane fuel all the time. I filled up yesterday @ $1.53 per litre wtf !!

when you're getting back into town with 10l in the tank and each town is 15-20l apart you are cutting it fine. got caught like that at paynes find on the newman trip. they were shut due to storm damage, no signs at magnet or wubin. luckily they caretaker allowed me to siphon 10l from his F100.

Ceramic coated Wildcat extractors on my 2008 Jimny. Just hit 49 and NOT looking forward to turning 50.

did it cost much to get them coated? mettams said they wanted to weld on a flange to the extractors before coating.

Jeez, you should carry at least one 20L Jerry can if your going out there... when were you last at Paynes Find ?, used to prospecting out there, he he, is that guy still selling his stone sculptures ?

Just a couple of weeks ago on my way back from newman, i had already used up 30l in jerry can fuel, went past magnet thinking i'd get fuel in paynes find as i had a mate who lived just out of town, failed on both counts. no fuel and he'd moved.

lesson here, dont drive past a bowser with an empty jerry can

$250 for the coating and got the flange welded on first. Bit of a pain but worth it.

I used to detect... havnt done it for at least 20 years now... but i loved doing it... i have an old Whites Discriminator, but it still works great... never found any gold, but found a few old coins from around the old miners camps... i imagine there would be a fair bit of surface and Alluvial gold now, after 20 years of erosion from weather etc...
