true that. the noise in mine is getting louder. I can still hear it with the stereo all the way up now. I think I'm going to take it into my mechanic next week to see if he can take it for a spin and get a diagnosis out of him.

If its getting louder than id say diff centre imo. Sounds like mine now im guessing, you have to take your foot off the accelerator to talk to the passenger?

fuck that, I looked into vitata centers. they are a different ratio than sierras so you have to replace the front and back. vitara fronts come in 22 and 26 spline, vitara rear won't fit into sierra. so you have to find two vitaras and get one 22 spline front and get a 26 from another. I tabled it for now there are easier options that I can look into.
I'm going to replace the oil in my diff this weekend to see if that does anything. if its got metal in it at least we know its the diff!

ok so I just replaced the diff oil... the noise is still here and does not seemed to have changed at all. no metal in the oil but it was pretty black. by the way is 1L of 80w-90 oil enough or do I need to go and buy another bottle?

definitely only occurs under load. I can be driving 60 down the road noise is there. lift off the accelerator.. immediately gone.
I like the diff idea if the last bit of your post was referring to diff gears. I doubt it has been replaced in the life time of the car.
I just installed a second hand Sierra transfer in my Jimny and it is making the same noise as you describe and as in the youtube clip. I was thinking bearings. I also installed a used gearbox at the same time so need to ensure it's not that too.

YAY!
Just to clarify, where I was saying about the hubs a page back, I was talking about what damage is it that can be done if you drive it in 4wd with the hubs unlocked!
Also, do you have all the gear for your 1.6 conversion? If so, what'd it cost you?

true ya I think that may have happened a few times and could have contributed to what ever happened.
theres a guy up here in townsville selling an unfinished comp truck with a 1.6 efi in it. he wants 3000 for the lot but I was hoping to get the engine and everything needed for 1500 so probably 2000$ into my car would be pretty accurate. but keep in mind its hard as shit get get anything up here. things are cheaper in brissy.
