No doubt this is an old problem but its new to me.

1.3 carb Sierra

I was on a nav run with Taszook, and needed to get up a long steep slippery track, 80% to top and we lost traction, the 3500pd atv micro winch saved the day.

At about the time forward motion stopped I lost power from engine, it idled fine but spluttered under throttle and gave no useable power (can you use the word power when talking zook?). I suspected lack of fuel due to angle, (it was steep).

The engine had been idling for a lenghty period prior to the hill climb, and was running warmer than usual.

Carby has had a kit & works fine normally,

When facing up a steep hill is the fuel bowl and float affected in such a way that the accelorator pump and jets unable to function?

Do Zooks suffer from vapour lock?

Anyone found a simple fix? that doesn't include a 1.6efi

Pic taken on 2nd winch, in the background is the track going down. Other bigger trucks did no better.This zook amazes me!

you can find on big hills you are bouncing around a bit and dumps a lot of fuel out the bowl vent into teh intake so it dies off

That would not be a constant, as in not to return. Usually when this happens, you let it sit, then restart, she coffs and splutters, clears herself, and away you go, doesn't last long.

Not that I have any ideas, I hate the Aisin carb, IMO they are too complicated for a 4wd, simple is good.

mine turned out to be the fuel pump getting lazy.
it was fine on flat or down hill, but was running out on longer uphill sections under large fuel loads

Once at the top of the hill we stopped for lunch, it started and ran fine from then on so could be pump.

Could the angle cause the float to lift and shut off fuel to bowl?
or could the angle cause the fuel to spill over into venturi and flood? much like spilling due to bumps.

I don't get why it would idle and yet be hard to get revs and then die on load.

If its the pump, it may supply say, 50% volume required, so, under a long uphill run, where the engine is requiring maximum fuel, it will starve, sputter, and die.
When you start it, with no load, the engine is fine, as it requires little fuel, similarly to when on the flat or going down hill, far less volume of fuel require.
