Sorry for not searching, we are in the middle of a job! How do you pull the rear axles out of a 1990 Suzuki vitara?

The manual says you need to cut the bearing off if you're going to replace it, then hydraulic press the new one on!

Thanks Mate,

It to 3 stooges 11 hours to get the bloody things apart and then back together. We ended up having to build a slide hammer and we also took the diff centre half out because we weren't so sure. Turns out I have an LSD which I'm pretty happy about. It's all back together now and oh so quiet.

what led you to believe its an LSD? could you see the clutch packs in there?

did you buy yours modified? I dont believe any vitara was released in Aus with LSD and they were next to unheard of in Japan

My mate told me it was, he reckoned that he's worked on them before (LSD's that's not Zooks) and he was pretty sure I had one. I'm not 100% sure though he does fix the army's trucks. Though we all had no idea when it came to the zook.

Do you have a pick of a normal vitara diff? At least I can confirm if it looks the same.

Edit: I'm starting think it might not be, it looks the same as the one in one of the first diff picks in the below link.

Oh yeah. I had a chat to my mate last night, he's assured me it's an LSD he also said that the diff has been pulled apart before so looks like someone has stuck one in there as an afterthought.

It does make me think though. Some of the comments I've had from other people while out wheelin they said they were jelous I had an LSD because of the way it was climbing, I told them it was an open wheeler and that just how good Vit's are.

+ 1 on it not being LSD, jack it up & check the circle spin ratio.

Heh yeah I know it sounds bad but he wasn't sure if it was a remove the centre then the axles like a banjo diff or if it was the other sort. Once we found a pic of the axles he realised which way it was to happen. To me it looked the same as the one in the pic you posted plus he told me he could see the clutch packs.

[quote="Atari"]+ 1 on it not being LSD, jack it up & check the circle spin ratio."[\quote] Explain how and I'll give it a go and everyone can be satisfied :P

thats for open diffs, LSD will lock both axles together and spin the wheels same direction

better to hold one wheel and try and spin the other, shouldnt be able to

OK I'll give it a try tonight. It'd be nice to have one though it wouldn't change my driving style since i've alway had whatever is in there.
