Hey peeps. Long time no post.
But anywayz onto the proper situation.
The last time I drove my suzy it sounded like a freakin airoplane and due to the fact that I am at uni now in a different place I haven't had a chance to sarse it out. So I thought i would do some research b4 i get back home.
Ummm it sounds like a aeroplane only when slight acceleration occurs...
One of my mates had the same issue for ages untill he realised that the tailshaft bearings had died a horrible death.
But yeah could this be a tailshaft bearing problemo or something else. And if it is could I do it myself or is it too difficult?

if it sounds like the plane is coming into land from the rear, it could be either pinion bearings, wheel bearings, or a uni joint.

may sound like a stupid thing to say, but check the oil level before anything else... low level gave my sierra the symptoms your describing

Or in this case, a Propellor Shaft bearing, no mention if the plane is a Jet or Prop job.

Ok well my vehimacle isn't ACTUALLY a plane.. Unfortunately.
But it sounds like a jet turbine crossed with a really whining sound.
(It is a 1990 SWB Sierra)
The sound is coming from the center back of the car.
And no I havn't checked oil or red bull levels yet. WHen you talk about oil level do u mean the dif oil? Or engine oil? Because engine oil is right.

Check the exhust for holes. Makes a wicked nasty load noise when there is a hole in the exhust before the muffler. (or if you put a straight thru with extractors and a hotdog resonator, it sounds like a evil lawn mower on crack )(yes, that is from experience )

Is it like a loud whining noise? As in a rotating noise?
Get someone in the back and ask them to listen to the noise? Confim its in the rear? ( noises can sometimes sound like the rear when its actually at the front)

Is it only there when driving? When u rev it is it there?

Check/ change diff oil. Best to change it if you haven't done it in a while.

Umm no Muffler is fine. Except there must be a crack in it somewhere. Has opened up a couple of times and filled the cabin with smoke (Fortunately have had windows open so barely even noticed) But was intense smoke haha. Always happened on this one hill when I hit it at a certain speed.

Umm will get someone to double check it is come from back when I get home in a couple of weeks, Yeah as in a rotating noise. And no it isn't there when just reving in neutral.

Will also change diff oil, was going to do it before I left but ran out of time.

yeah i meant diff oil, sorry i should have mentioned that. i know mine was noisy when it was low, or when its muddy.

Either rear wheel bearings or pinion bearing
Mine made as you call it "areoplane" noise in my rear diff
