I know it has probably come up before but I've got my 97 sierra idling at about 2400. From cold start it goes from 1500 up pretty fast. In a bit of a desperate situation as we are halfway out to a camping weekend. Just had the water pump changed just before leaving. Any Ideas?
I think i heard this before on this site but there is a bolt on the carby that when turned adjusts the idle hope it helps i maybe wrong though, which is more probable than not.

Sounds like your choke might be stuck on. Ensure the radiator is topped up and check that the 2 small coolant hoses on the carby are getting warm as the engine gets warm. Might be worth pulling them off and blowing a bit of compressed air through the fittings on the carby to make sure water flows through ok. They have a habit of getting blocked up with crap over a few years of use
