I've must got myself some Muddies - Federal MT's 30x9.5's on 15x8's. I got them second hand for a bargain but didn't really know what to think when he told me they were 15x8's, I just assumed they were 15x7's when I saw them advertised. They are -23 offset and look tuff as on the car. I currently have (Road tyres) 235x75's on 15x7's. I originally was going to stick with buying new 235 federals but jumped at the 30's for a great price. I'm new to all things 4x4 and was interested if its better for the 30's to be fitted to a 15x8 or 15x7? do they bag out better on the 15x7? They do seem to stand quite tall on the 15x8, even when well deflated. I'm sure there are pro's and con's of this trait. What are the notable differences of fitting the 30 to the different size rim? also is the 8inch rim bad for any other aspect of the zook? In the end, I bought these new tyres for the tyres, not caring for the white sunnies. I really am keen to put them on a set of black sunnies, so I need advice that will lean me towards either buying some new 15x7 black rims, or sticking with these 15x8's and maybe giving them a good paint job go obtain my desired look. (I'm sure someone will jump at buying the -23 15x8's if i decide to offload them) Thanks for helping me decide what's best....

There is nothing wrong with a 15x8.

The only difference is 25mm wider at the bead, which makes the tyre look alittle 'fatter' as the sidewalls are out more. It will make no difference to rolling diameter.

You may need to run more flaring to cover them.

It will make your sidewalls a little more vulnerable to cut damage.

Your looking at 12.7mm each side of the rim wider.

Side wall damage really depends on the tyre.

With a wider rim and a narrower tyre, would they be more prone to unseating a bead at lower pressures?

yes.

A 30x9.5 is on its absolute limit when fitted to an 8" rim. 7's would be far better.
