Hey there! Does anyone else think that this is a little suspect? I took my vehicle down to Kmart Auto this morning to have the tires rotated. When I picked the vehicle up the mechanic informed me that he had had trouble starting my vehicle due to the solenoid on the starter motor. After I had payed for the work I went to leave, however I was unable to start my car. I have never had a trouble starting the vehicle up until this point. The vehicle is a SV420. With a tap of the solenoid, I was able to get it going. Do you think it is just bad luck or does anyone else think this is a little suspect? I am now looking at around $250 to have the starter out and the brushes replaced. Thanks for your time, rwicks10

If your mechanically minded the bushes cost around $11 for my brothers hilux starter, we pulled it apart and replaced them, piece of cake.

just open it up, use some wd40 and a light sanding. grease the arm from the solenoid into the starter motor and you should be fine. or as said above, there's nothing complicated inside.

Solenoid of starter has no bushes....

o my bad, dude said it would cost him $250 to have starter pulled out and brushes replaced and I remember replacing my brothers brushes for $11.
must have read it wrong

If he went to Kmart auto to get his tyres rotated, I am not sure if he would have the mechanical ability to pull down a starter motor, regardless of how easy we know it is. (no offence)
Starters can start playing up in an instant, I doubt they buggered around with anythning on you.

check its not something stupid like a loose or dirty terminal before you go pulling stuff apart

well I don't know about you but whenever I put tyres on the front of my car I make sure they are balanced correctly.
and I certainty don't have a wheel balance machine at home

Thanks for the assistance their! I ended up getting the starter rebuilt by a local auto electrician. Cost a little, however the rebuild was significantly was cheaper than purchasing a new starter. All is good now, and it is back on the road. Cheers, rwicks10.
