G,day , Im having a problem with my 2007 jimny,

When taking off on hills something in the drive train is slipping,

I was thinking it was the rear diff missing a tooth or something so I removed the rear tail shaft put it in 4 and loaded up the engine with my foot on the break and it slipped again.

Also lately when driving slowly when the veachle is coasting at the point betwean accelerating and decelerating there seems to be a big slack spot , (if all that makes sence) And the transfer case seems to be a bit noisier and the oil was pretty grey.

So I droped the case out today pilled everyyhing apart and i couldnt see any visable damage all the bearings are in good shape so im starting to think the drive chain may have streached.

Is this a good possability or would there be a better reason for this

I have never heard of em slipping, but I do know thay stretch, a hire company up your way make's adjuster's for em, but it's not the best way of doing it..
Look at a sierra case, IMO it's the best option...

What do you mean by slipping?? Revs a little before movement or while you are driveing its like it is free revving? Or are there noises?

hmm maybe I could dodge up a tensioner to last me untill I can get parts to do a case swap. Do you know what sierra case year, gear ratio etc I should be looking for?

tintop : yeah there are noises its kind of hard to explain them buy typing,

its kind of a fast solid CLACK-CLACK-CLACK-CLACK noise like a gear slipping a few teeth
but only when under load and when over say 20 kph is fine. you can feel it through the whole car when it dose it.

Have a read of what is involved with a t-case swap into a late model jimny like yours here .


The ratios become all messed up with the markIII jimny gear box and sierra case , carn;t remeber of the top of my head how much it will be OVER geared if you leave the mark III gear box in. But as zukenutter has done the swap with a early model gear box, he is around 6% over geared with the 235's and sierra case, of the top of my head.
