Sorry about the photo's of the photo's but these have got to be 15+ years old.

Ha ha... something's wrong with me - I spent an hour with an angle grinder and drill bit grinding stone to clean up the casting seams myself.

I love Mk 1 Cortinas.. best looking pommy car of the era. Your efforts came up a treat Atari

Will and ultrasonic cleaner take the corrosion scale off alloy or is it only good or contaminants?

cheers che, there were countless hours spent on that manifold afterschool when i should have been doing yr12 homework 8)

i was taught by one of the best, the old man was a ford trained mechanic when these were around back in the day & knew pretty much every trick in the book when it came to the kent engine & the cortina. he was involved in a heap of local motorsport, mainly track & hill climb cars + a heap of souped up streeters... it was originally a mild "GT" tune, down draft webber, mild cam. then dad detuned a formula ford engine & slotted it in after telling mum my car needed the valve stem seals done.

it was lumpy as hell, cosworth A4 cam, side draft 45mm webbers, massive head work, it was a fully built motor from top to bottom/pully to clutch, in the end it was borderline overkill. i could smash 3rd gear on call, handled like it was on rails with k-mac suspension.... lost my licence, got the 4wd bug, wasn't using them & had no where to store them, sold them.

Sweet, came up OK with a bit of oven cleaner. Forgot to take a 'before' photo, but can kinda see what it looked like.

Not as good as a shop job, couldn't get all the rust scale off... but @ $2.50, can't complain

Yes the PCV valve or little pipe looking deal sticking up out of it is what is rattling. Maybe something else too, but the PCV always rattles
