Hey crew - I'm just a rookie when it comes to Sierras - bought my first recently. Ran sweet until a few days ago was pulling it around a corner and it stalled on me - then stalled probably another 4 times until i could limp it home.
I've had a few mechanics look at it and they haven't got close to sorting it out - need a few ideas form you peeps.

Carby is fairly clean, putting a new fuel filter on it tomorrow as its pretty ancient - had it serviced few days ago while they were working on it.

Its an SJ80 96 model ..stock 1.3 (except extractors and sports exhaust)

Cheers if you can help

Hey 96coily

I was told my zook was unusual as it has coil front and leaf back?

- can you help me with suspension upgrades? what brands etc are quality - I wanna put 31's on and at the moment i'm running everything stock.

With the stalling - I'm going to do the fuel pump next week - I'll get back to ya if It doesn't change anything - I found the fuel pump in Perth for $131.00 at the suzistore

No sierra I have ever heard of had coil front and leaf back from factory... Either someone's done some serious modding on your suspension, or you need to find another suspension shop who know's what they are talking about...

mmm not impressed.......

Drove me zook for about 200ks yesterday was running a treat after changing the fuel filter and tuning it. was about 100metres home in the rain and it decided to stall - took me ten minutes to finish off the 100 metres arhhh

- thinking its electrical now - a bloke said to disable the immobiliser??....I also think the battery has been filled with water (not distilled) - would the battery be a problem?

The strange thing is all the dash lights would come on red when i pushed in the clutch and if i took too long to change gears (on purpose) it would stall...

fuel pump is still yet to be done (mid week) nything else any one can suggest to check replace - I'm getting desperate to get it running healthy again

Where abouts are you in Perth ?
If the zook is easy to turn over I would doubt it's a battery problem
could be electrical
hard to diagnose from this distance, but back mid next week 8)

It could be vacuum building up in tank, when it stalls are you working harder like going up a hill? or after a bit of distance? Try removing the petrol cap next time it stalls, if its hard to get off then you've found the problem,
In earlier models the carbon canister in the engine bay colects fumes from the tank, it also draws fresh air via a hole in the base of the canister, if that blocks up or gets water in it engive vacuum sucks straight from the tank. the fix is easy just clean vent.

Hey , I spent quite a few hours on it Sunday - cleaning etc, checking vacuum lines, carby, leads etc - I put new battery in (just coz the other one looked shagged ) new spark plugs - and new leads go on tomorrow. I noticed a damaged lead from the coil to the dizzy and the spark plugs i pulled out looked hammered.

I got it running great late last night - still idles quite high around 2,000 when cold but when warmed up between 800 - 1100 which im stoked about. I check all grounding points and cleaned them.

so far i think its goin ok - I'm thinking its actually a few things going wrong at once - after the fuel filter was changed it ran better, after i changed the spark plugs its runs a heck lot better - Im changing all leads and some major vacuum lines this week. If it re- appears the gremlin I'll do the fuel pump and give it a kick in the shins.

I'm not a local Perth boy - I live south

Hey TasRat - Im always slowing down (clutching and braking at the same time) when the car stalls..No other time!! I'll check the petrol cap next time it stalls - I'd be stoked if it was a simple issue

So after a few weeks I've finally worked out the problem - In the process i destroyed my carby - bought a holley (180) to replace.

The fuel tank was full of crap - dropped it and cleaned it out - found sand, grit and sticks ....it was being pumped into the carby - stalling the ole girl...

Cheers for all the help - Its running like a weapon now - from hardly gettin to 90ks an hour to over taking 120+ I'm lovin life....yew!!!
