Gday fellas, been here reading for a while, never posted before. Anyways i was up the beach on the weekend and my drivers side cv seems to be very noisy when i turn, ajd seemed to get worse through the day. I have new wheel bearings and swivel joint rebuild kit here, where in newcastle or online will i pick up a set of cvs? Are there any brands to avoid? What price should i expect? Is for a 1992 hardtop sierra wt.

Ohh, tryed a search, 'cv' is too short to search for.

you can some times get them on ebay. otheriwse there should be some one on here who can sell you some good second hand ones

I would rather second hand than ebay ones.

Have you ever looked at them? Mine used to click only on full lock with power with no grease(because the diff oil washed it out). Much quieter with grease.

It did it for 3 years before i sold it. So they will last.

Nope never seenthem, but then i will never use standard CVs again, I have Chromos in all my Zuks

I was refering to the original post. Have you ever had a look inside at your cv's to see if they are greasy?

I never needed chromos as my front wasnt locked. Opendiff, stock cv's was almost fine for what i was doing.

Nope havnt pulled it apart yet, will tear into it on the weekend, anybody here have so good stock cvs? Just in case

If the CVs are still functioning, maybe take them out and to a driveline specialist and get them rebuilt - same shafts but new joints. Possibly a better option then ebay CVs and definitely better then second/hand ones IMO.

Chrome mo's from lowrange @ ~$240 a pair + shipping including axle shafts seem pretty darn good value. Only catch is they are 26spline and thus will require rear diff spider gears in the front or a complete rear diff center in the front to fit them.

I must be easy on my gear... There is prob only 2 times where a front locker would of helped, or a winch..

Yep ive been looking at this option, and while im there i may as well buy a lockrite locker, and then, f*** it, might as well get the rear locker too, save on shipping and all.

Jezus i brought this thing to save money the SS was the money pit. ohh well hahaha

I blew a front cv (r/h) can i pull the left one out too and still drive the car?

You don't need to pull the other one out. Just pull the broken one out.

ALWAYS pull the CV out as soon as you break it. The chunks from the bell can and do lock the steering up, which could be very dangerous.

How do you change the CV once it's out? DOn't they have a circlip on the inside of the joint, that holds it onto the shaft?

if the cv has broken then the axle will be buggered as well
