hi guys, i have only had this particular sierra 2 weeks, its an 89, 1.3L engine. with 175K on the clock.

this weekend i took it for its first long run, down to the peninsular to visit my parents.

& while i expected it to be a bit crap on the highway, i was really un-impressed with its performance.

floored, i just managed 110k's. it mainly sat around the 90 mark, slowing down to about 75 in some uphill sections.

and only got 345k's and the tank is pretty much empty.

is this pretty much average, or is something wrong. my 3 cylinder swift will easily sit on 110

i know the sierra isn't a power house, & im not after a fast machine, but i thought i'd at least be able to do the speed limit.

whats your top end speed. can you do 110 with no problem?

what sized tyres are you running?
you won't get much more than 110 out of one some people do but sierras are in no way fast

cant expect much from a zook.. as some have noted, they have the aerodynamics of a house brick :D

i think standard rubber, road pattern.

i know their not made for speed, i just find it hard to believe that such a good car, that was in production til kinda recently could only just manage 110.

if thats pretty much average of the sierra, thats a shame. & lucky i still have my pajero for highway trips.

my drover with 31's 6.5s 2inch exhaust and extractorsand 180,000ks does 110 at 3000revs and will do about 130 and gets about 300ks out of a tank

my sierra with 31s 2inch exhaust and a weber will do 120/130

i did have 2 adults, 2 kids, esky & a bit of a head wind. but i didnt expect my 3 cylinder swift to b better. i know i didnt buy my zook to drive australia. but a little more woulda been nice.

i normally get around 465 got of a tank, so to only get 340 was a shock, but it was almost floored the whole way. so im not suprised.

& when trucks came past the other way, i thought i was gonna tare my rag top. i did manage to draft a truck and get up to 100 pretty well, but was gettin thrown around all over the place. woulda looked real strange to the car behind me. :-)

Mine sits on 110, with 31s pretty easily, although hill can slow it a bit...
I would say yours is tired.

I've got 31's and 6.5 transfers in mine. It goes about as good now as it did when it was standard. 110km/h is about as fast as it will go, but it will go up to around 130km/h if the conditions are right. You may want to check the state of your tune, engine compression and make sure the vacuum secondary's on the carb are operational. If that all checks out alright, a decent exhaust system would theoretically give you a better top end and you are allowing the engine to breathe better.

i had a coil sierra stock that sat on 90 up the coast against the head winds but just putting extractors on meant i sat on 110 no worries in the same spot and 160 down hills

yep top speed would be about 110klm flat stick & 345klm from a 40lt tank is about right aswell. don't forget it has the aerodynamics of a brick.

check your tune, its shocking how bad it get some time. plugs timing and new fuel filters will do heaps. if your running std wheels you should be able to sit on 100 no worries with out your foot to the floor.

fastest i've ever had a zook its 110k's on 33's with std gearing and i was shitting myself!! holed a pistion and had to drive 300 ks(just picked it up from armadale and was driving back to A.C.T) like that to get home. car had a turbo so went real nice after i rebuilt the engine.

myself and mr ken who some of you know once performed a test...yes in a controlled environment... ....to see what top speed we could get with our engine and gearing combo. all we know is our speedo's are acurate....and we went until the needle can go no more...which was 140. i will not do that again in a hurry!
