ok well atm im just working out a plan for the zooky before i take a angle grinder to it now iv decided im going to cut the Chaise and extended it im aiming for 100 " WB

now the plan is atm to keep it simple il link it later iv found some hilux diffs for it going to run 37s maby 40s later .. now my question is with 37s or 40s .. how much will i need to move the front out so it wont scrub on the fire wall .
the zook will have no guards at all just the bonnet id like to keep the front grill with head light bucket but i think thats dreaming ..

so im guessing ur basic RUF wont make it Clear the firewall will it .or with the With of the hilux diffs scrubbing shouldn't be a Issue ? Cheers thanks

my whole idea was to Cut Chasie just before the spring hanger and push the rear back ..... make new drive shaft brake lines etc.. do 3/4 Elliptical Rear AND RUF maby with hilux springs

This is a guess, but for 37's I would expect that you would need to move the front diff forward about 4". Ofcoarse the larger the offset on your wheels is, the great the scrub radius, so you must take this into account.

Just take the whole front clip off, and make a tube front end. Heaps cleaner and stronger.

you are right if i did link it i wouldn't need to do any Chasie mods at all but with a tight budget atm ...thinking of leaving it on leafs for now.. u might be onto something Tanshi maby i should just start collecting bits for it then find someone willing to help me link it

I dont think coiling the front is necesarily going to cost too much. It more about the time it will take you to do it.

I would just do it the way you want the first time around. I can measure my rig for you if its any help. Might give you an idea as to where you need your diff.

I have done a 200mm chassis extension and used hilux rear leaves up front tho I am only running 35s

Yes im still building mine, But my lwb is 3" forward with 35's. Just clears the original unhammered firewall. My rear diff is in standard-ish positon. 96"ish wb total

Hilux front, -19 15x8, 35x12.5 km2

Cheap build would be spoa on 35's. 37's + get dear..

You need to decide what type of suspension your going to install as the clearance will be dependant on that.

Reverse shackle would be my decision if you were to run leaves. This will require the diff more forward than coils or normal setup with shackle at the front.

Make up your mind then go from there. I do have a buildup on here and outers. Most of the info on the buildup is relevant to my older sierra which was leaf sprung om hilux leaves.

Sorry for the lack of tech but having metre's of Chassis in front of the grill looks wrong IMO I'd coil it just for the sake of looks.

funny u say that .. i was thinking the same thing i have been doing alot of thinking today about what suspension set up what way to go about it .. and i think im just going to do some research and more research into linking it that way i get the best approach angle and best Flex / Ride

i agree 100%, VWDaves monstrosity is a great example of what no to do... he put in all that work & kept the leafs, then spent ages trying to hide the chassis extension with a stinger.

Its cos alot of guys in the usa prefer leafs. Each to their own.

The chassis extension can be made to look OK if you put a winch into the space.

Big extensions look crap though.

Ideally you still want to situate the motor behing the front diff if you can. It makes for better balance.

In saying that my current zook pretty much has all the chassis extension at the rear and its really good.

The orange zook is in my team and he and i won Toperi last year in our zooks.

He runs 60 series diffs as mentioned. His setup is identical to my old setup except everything on it is more or less perfect. Rob is fussy when he builds stuff. He is also very skilled.

Hilux rears all around with Spoa. No track bar. Reverse shackle etc etc. He has modified the firewall slightly to fit the tyres and had a small chassis extension.

If tyre size exceeds 36" and you want to move the front axle forward more than 40mm, then the headlight bucket really has to go.

In that case, there's no reason to run the car high - if the guards are going to get cut, they might as well get really cut, or totally removed.

Some ideas.
