Hey all, I am currently in the middle of a g16b engine rebuild and have hit many brick walls, the latest of which is piss weak con rod studs.
I have had two of these snap when re torquing them.

Having looked around the internet and my local area the best I can do is from my local suzi stealership who want something like $160 to $240 for a new rod with bolts which seams a bit rediculous to me when I only need two bolts.

If anyone here knows of anywhere that sells these studs, if there are other compatible studs or even a part number I would be extremely appreciative.

what torque setting are you doing them up to ?
ive never broken rod bolts and ive built a shitload of engines.

have you tried mini and suzi spares in cairns ?
if you dont have any luck i have heaps of them , postage would probably be worth more than the bolts !

Thanks heaps for the resposes everyone, I have been torquing to 35Nm as per the engine overhaul manual, all but two bolts have torqued fine and rotate with no binding.
Do you think this may be too tight losfer?

I haven't tried suzi spares yet as I had never heard of them, will give them a call tomorrow.

You sure your torque wrench is in Nm and not Ft/lb? I've done this once before. Was supposed to torque a bolt to 50Nm, then it snapped at 40. Was going apeshit till I realised the torque wrench was in ft/lb

Couldn't supply the bits I wanted when I was up there a few weeks ago but seemed like nice guys and helpful.

I've had this problem as well, but I am now paranoid and double check as mine has both measurements and if you're not carefull, well...

I did call up suzimotive (suzy spares), but they were unable to help.
It doesn't help that I've just got the engine with no vin either.

The engine is a 1995 G16B 16 valve mpfi. Edit: SOHC

Nope, do I need one?

The actual bolt(s) stretched much more than it should have before reaching torque/snapping so I think it may have just been fatigue or something, might look into getting a new complete set.

yes, it will lube then lock it. i just use red locktight on stock rod bolts. replace your whole set as i bet the others will be over stretched as well and could let go.
