Ive spent sometime reading through some threads in the past few days.
Thought I would get one going that you can find most of the info you need in one place. Im about to start paint diffs, etc then will move to chassis and panels.

Try and keep the questions/comments to Painting or paint prep and or panel and panel repair. If you dont know dont guess, better to ask then we all learn and the thread is very usefull to all.
I will also list some of the threads Ive found with some great info.

My first few questions are
Prepsol and wax and grease remover which is best?
Etch primer or normal primer? Is it as easy as 1 for baremetal the other for over some paint?
Which is the easy paint to use for just the bush 4bys not show cars.
Mixing paints EG How to mix 2pak?
Bog, when too and when not too.
Where does spray putty come into it all?
Spray Guns and compressors?
Spray gun tip sizes for different useage?
Is there a reason to replace the sound deadner, etc?
Safety! masks, breathing masks, etc

##any time you feel like it , but over ground and keyed steel not paint

Where does spray putty come into it all?

on a panel as thin as a zook panel a wire wheel partiularly on an angle grinder is playing with fire as if you get the panel too warm in a smallish area the panel will warp.

orbital sander with say 80- 120 grit is where its at on thin panels

Do you need to use a 2mm tip for spraying etch primer or normal primer?

Anyone used the 3M brand chassis black and/or stone guard from supercheap? Is the stone guard stuff fine to use on chassis/diffs or am I really better off using the bituminised chassis paint for that?

For stuff with surface rust should I used a rust converter first?

For a DIY respray would you go 2pac, enamel or acrylic? From the reading I've done they all have pros/cons, just wondering what other people have used and what their results were.

I've used the chassis black. Works good but takes ages to properly set but is pretty strong once it is applied and cured.

Only problem I've found with a tar paint like those chassis black paints is that it's a bitch to get off if you want to do any welding as the wire wheel tends to heat it up and reapply it elsewhere.

In my OPINION you would be better off painting in two pack, it's pretty durable when it dries and it's glossy off the gun. Don't be afraid of people saying it's hard to spray, the first spray job I did was with two pack and if you take your time, learn how to use your spray guns and ask questions before diving in you should be right.
*you should use an air mask, but if you don't want to go down that route at least pick up a mask with a carbon filter as two pack contains isocyanites or some bad shit that builds up in your blood and makes you grow another head.

As with all painting, it's only as good as the prep work, this is where the most time and effort should be put for good results.

Another tip is to allow body filler and spray putty to dry for as long as practical before sanding it and painting as it shrinks, so you don't want go painting straight over it to have it shrink down the track ruining your paint job.

These are just a few tips I picked up, I'm no pro as all I've painted is my wheels and moto, so if anyone knows better feel free to correct me as I'm still learning and just about to spray my suzi. Hope this helps. ;) sorry for the novel.
