Hi guys,
I know this topic may have been covered before. However, I did search and did not find anything relating to my question. *only for sierras
So I am in the process of selecting my new lift. The car is a 1996 Suzuki Vitare SWB.
The only lift that seems to have good reviews is the Calmini 3" Super Articulation kit. Seeing as Fatzook's kit isn't ready and doesn't seem like it will be ready for a while, I believe this is the kit I will be ordering.
You can't rush perfection Pete
What I would like to know is would the 3" lift and a 2" body lift change my COG to a level where I will be at great risk of rolling?
Is 5" of lift too much in a SWB Vitara?
The general concensus is that the Calmini lift is too hard. I currently do not have a bull bar nor do I have a winch. With the combination of hard springs (which I assume would reduce the flex?) and the added height; would my car be at a greater risk of a topple?
I appriciate your time

Vitaras are wide, even up that much they are still low so its not going to make it anymore tippy than a Hilux
but why do you need the lift? thats the important question, we should all know bigger isnt better by now

Yeah mate. 2" body lift is legal. 3" spring is not....only 2" is allowed.
Royce, I am after the Calmini lift due to the flex they offer and also to keep the body away from the ground.
Body lift Is to accomodate the 31" tires I plan on getting. I know the 3" lift alone will allow that, I just want to have as much room as possible.
Or is it just the wank factor that appeals to me?
On the weekend I went 4x4ing at glasshouse. On my way down that massive ditch as you first start along the powerlines track. I had to have two mates on my roof to keep the passengers side wheel on the ground (silly I know)
I can't for the life of me grasp suspension can anyone explain to me, if in this situation...would stiffer springs of helped the wheel stay on the ground (reduced body roll?) or would it of hindered me more.

i'd say that was a lack of wheel travel, but without knowing the location it's hard to judge.
mine is 5" taller & is about 4" wider & feels pretty stable apart from vertical climbs where the lack of wheel base comes into play.

By law yes. In QLd you are only allowed a 2" spring lift and a 2" body lift that is engineered.

So calmini lift will fix my wheel travel problem Do you have any links of pictures with the calmini kit at full flex?
Cheers for your input!

The calmini kit won't add wheeltravel if you continue to run no bar, winch and stock offset rims. It is possible to use ome (or other) springs to get it to flex without adding weight. The useable parts of the calmini kit are the arms and the diff drop brackets. The rest is either of poor quality (struts, shocks) or designed for massive weight and rim offset. I've driven a Lwb vit on 31's with a calmini kit running ome struts and it rode and handled well, but it was a heavy vit- arb bar, winch, etc.

I currently have wide offset rims. I wish I could find a bar but not many pop up!
What do you think my best option is? I have plenty of fat friends to sit in the car?

Pift where did you get this info? The un-written 'law' is 2 inches spring lift but that actual law is no greater than a 1/3 more than the stock bump-stop height.

We are in QLD mate.Yours may be different.
I was actually directing that comment just to spring lift. QLDer's can get bodylifts approved. Pretty sure that's 2" BL

I won't say all but alot of engineers are counting tyres size increase as lift.

Careful talking about lift 'amounts' as we have never had that law in QLD and I am not sure if we really are using NCOP in QLD now

this is where Dan's thread about width/height/COG gives a bit of an idea of stability in a roundabout kind of way, just need more people to measure their zooks to get a better range of mods.

Requirements for SA:
http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/pdfs/per ... Height.PDF
Short of it is, no more than 2" via any or all of:
Wheel/tyre increase(Though this can not be greater than 15mm of original items)
Body lift
Suspension lift.
Anything more than 2" has to go through an engineer.

then you spend all that money engineering it only to have some mechanically retarded police officer still defect you.

Yep.
Stupid system. Even waving a letter from the engineer in front of them often fails. Because it is up to the owner to prove to TSA that it complies, not the officer.

Haha the clutch loves it.
I will be getting gears before 31's though. Love crawling speed.
