im in need of a thermo fan to run in my sierra. just wondering for those who run thermo fans, which is a reliable or good brand to buy.
i dont want no supershit or repco brands.
i herd spal is a good brand, but pretty pricey
is there any others?

Depends on how much you want to spend. I have a 14 inch fan in a Vit. It is a cheap out of china job $60.00 but not from Supa crap or Repco. it works fine. I am using the Davies Craig sensor and adjustastable auto switch. Repco quoted around $250 for a 16 inch fan, and it looks like it came out of the same factory.

Davies craig fans are around $250 or so also. The important thing with these fans is the amount of air they shift (cubic metres per min etc.)

I have also wired mine with an isolating switch so as to be able to switch off when in deep mud water etc. to stop pulling shit into the radiator. this was the main reason for the fan swap. I have a large red light to tell me if the fan is off as a reminder.

try to get yourself a set of dual fans from a late model falcon from a wreckers and use one of them they afre bloody brilliant we use one on a drag car with a thermo switch that we scabbed from a magna and plumbed it int the top of the thermostat housing.

There very good, but quick loud. My mate runs them in all his speedway cars
Are they the right size for a 1.3 radiator though.
Don't really want the fins hanging over the sides.
Want then more inside so I can make a surround.

I have a Hyundai Lantra A/C fan on my car. It never gets hot even sitting idling and I run a 1.8 turbo CA18det with an old 323 radiator (no bigger than vitara radiator) This is also with a big front mount intercooler sitting infront of radiator.

Apparantly has the same fan motor as the commodore units. It was $40 from wreckers.

I have a single fan and part of the shroud from an AU Falcon in mine and it works well. Required a bit of a cut and shut to the shroud tho. I'm currantly switching mine with a Davis Craig adjustable switch but not that happy with the settup and would rather a switch like you sugest.

SPAL if there is no budget (14" is about $250-$300) or any OEM fan that will fit will usually work well.

Thermofan only for me. No room or need for engine fan.

Yeah I have no room for an engine fan but on the beach the other day it kept overheating unless I could keep it around 30k's so I think the fan is to small? Though I think the biggest I can get on the current radiator is about a 12 inch.

Reckon that will be enough?

At a guess that's stockton beach you're talking about?

That was seriously boggy out there by high tide. I went in at lavis lane end and was greeted by a Navara bogged to its axels in the middle of the track!

I was down to first for most of it on the beach... Back to the thread, with the standard engine fan I had no temp problems

If you buy a quality fan that moves enough air, and your cooling system is correctly sized and maintained,then you should not have an issue.

Obviously the fan's size is limited by the radiator. Make sure your thermo is shrouded, and use a good quality thermofan controller.

i bit the bullet and just bought a cheapie thermo fan,
didnt have the money to get a spal that i wanted

Original Equipment Manufacturer.

So its a factory fitted part. Ford fan, holden fan, Hyundai fan etc....
