ahaha, 3 responses with the same thing. so why not add another.

im pretty sure snap-on make one, its called a Scan tool. you need a different key for each vehicle tho. you just "scan" the tool over the engine, as close to the rocker cover as possible and it read all the failures happening inside. it must have x-ray vision or something to see whats going on. :D :D

If the vehicle in questions uses OBD-II (on board diagnostics port) you can pick up a generic scan tool from ebay for under $100.
The snap-on one recommended above is about $10k with all of the keys for full vehicle coverage.

I use the one sold by Repco. $150. Talks to maybe 60% of vehicles? It will usually spit out the code but can't tell you what it means, google will fix that tho

I have one of these. Bloody good.
The ScanGauge II can check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and if found, can display how many there are and the Trouble Codes themselves. Using the internet or repair manuals, these can be translated to the failed component and repairs can be made.

Data captured when the Trouble Code was set can be recalled to help troubleshoot the problems (was the temperature hot or cold, speed high or low, etc.). The ScanGauge II can be used to clear the trouble codes and data which will turn off the warning (Check Engine, Service Engine soon, etc.) lamp.

Does lots of other cool stuff as well.

though current model GV is CAN BUS so a lot of basic generic stuff may struggle, without the right protocols

Dear Shep

Ignore this thread, unless Stekky or Rhinoman post

the 1.6 there is no tool needed, you just short 2 pins on s plug and the check engine light flashes to tell you whats going on

That later one wont be a problem while you own it

A lot of Suzuki's AREN'T OBDII so the generic stuff doesnt work

Hey Royce, does this include the twin cam Jimny's?? I got supplied one of these http://www.rennacs.com/products.php#bluetooth through work and I can't get it to communicate with the Jim, but has no problems with most other cars.

I've seen some pretty Inventive two pin "code pulling tools".

Eg. Coathangers bent to shape like Ataris masterpeice. I'm sure he will be able to post a pick for you :)

It could do, I dont know which (if any) Suzuki are real OBDII

I have this http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... diagnostic

Maybe try that software with your unit? but then I think the pinouts differ too from memory

Yep as above (as in normal scan tools dont work), All you need is a bit of wire! I followed the guide on rhinopower.org Of course you need the diagnostics plug and check engine light wired up but. I also bought a cable of rhinopower to use with his free software.

What does OBDII mean? When my integra was showing an error code I got my mechanic to diagnose it, his flash snap setup was $24,000.. Looks like he got a bad deal!!

OBDII = On Board Diagnostics. It's becoming standard across most vehicles now. II just means version 2.

I have a cheap ebay bluetooth adapter for $17 and "torque" android app(free version), unfortuatly 02 gv was not OBDII compliant in australia.

Works perfect on alot of cars though.

"OBD2" is actually a US standard* mandated in 1996, that standard didn't include KWP2000 or CAN but has since been superceded. The European standard which did include KWP2000 is often referred to as EOBD but despite difference in the data communications and hardware all the protocols transmiut the same basic data.
From 2006 Australia adopted Euro 4 regulations which means that any generic scan tool that covers ISO9141-2 and KWP2000 (ISO14230) should work but many generic toools fail to connect properly to KWP2000 and need to have ISO14230 (Fast init) manually selected. I'm not sure when CANbus was adopted in Aus but again a generic tool should work.
Prior to 2006 its a bit fuzzy, some vehicles have SDL, the original Suzuki proprietary format, some use ISO9141-2 an OBD2 standard and others use a Suzuki proprietary format based on KWP2000 called SDL-KWP.
I have been working on SDL-KWP but I haven't been able to get my hands on an ECU to test.

Incidentally if you're using CANBus with a laptop interface always use the internal battery only - plugging the laptop into the mains is a good way to smoke the ECU.

* In actuality its a collection of around 12 standards that includes, IIRC, five different protocols.

http://kick-fix.com/ECU/DTC-errors/DTC-jtgh.html

Google is your friend.. This is for US sidekicks, may be the same?

34: MAF (16valve only) Air Flow Sensor Circuit ,too low current. , lower than 0.65mA detected

EDIT: This aligns with atari's document too...
