hey guys had a new carby put on last week old one was buggered however it now seems to use more fuel only getting 200-250 a tank

anyhoo i looked at the carby i dont know what im looking at but i can see two outlets that to me appear as though a hose should be connected each pic shows the outlets any help fellas

outlet 1 smack bang in the middle of the pic



Outlet 2 gold outlet in between 2 black hoses

yeah they should thats for the auto choke, it could be staying on and would explain the fuel usage a bit

cant remember exactly where they go but one is on the metal pipe out the rear of the water pump and the other the manifold, might pay to get somebody here with a sierra to check

Looking at my manual they appear to be the water inlet and outlet for the carby , this would explain why you are using too much fuel as the carby might not get to the right temp and make the choke turn off , your hoses might have been joined up to bypass the carby for some reason , Cheers Paul.

hey another point of interest royce is that when i first start my car it idles around 900rpm

within minutes of warming up it goes to 1500rpm

it remains there all the the time sounds like choke is still on hey so my car never idles below 1500

When you say you had a new carby put on, I hope you did'nt pay a mechanic to do it, cause I'd be slapping him upside his head. Apart from the missing water hoses, could be anything causing your other problems, such as incorrectly fitted vacuum hoses, vacuum leaks, or incorrectly set carby. As Royce mentioned, the best thing to do is get someone with a Sierra out so you can compare hoses, adjust your fast idle screw, idle up screw and your idle screw. Mixture screw should be sealed from the factory, but if somebody had previously removed the seal, adjust your mixtures too.

i pointed out the missing hoses they said oh they were not there before BULLSHIT

ALL THEY DID was turn idle down so yeah when driving it idles at 900rpm instead of 1500 but now on first start it struggles to idle at 200rpm and stalls

PLUS i just used half a tank and only got 70kms out of it

so over it think im taking her somewhere else

ok ok ok

well the two outlets you guys where correct and it had been bypassed

however there was no flow into the carby to allow for the temp to be detected and to allow for the choke to disengage

so i fixed the hoses into there correct places and adjusted idle and its perfect

choke now disengages once it has warmed up

choke being constantly on explains using 17l for 82 kms hahahaaha

When I rebuilt my motor the last time I forgot to put the water in the radiator , so the throttle body had no flow and it ran like a bag of shit , It would not idle and would not rev , adding water , straight away back to idle and still runs fine until today.

Also you need to check the flow when you flush your radiator as corrosion will cause the pipes to block causing poor performance , Cheers Paul.

ok an update on my economywhen i started noticing issue with carby my

first tank was 240km

then i got a new carby on it and still had issues major over fueling

second tank 140km

then i found the missing water inlet hoses to the carby for the choke etc fixed that up

third tank 360km and thats not running out will fill up tomorrow to found out how many litres and the economy id say its back down to 10l/100 easy
