i have been doing some reserch on ratios and gearing options for my jimny. i cant seem to find a deffinitive answer for one question. i have a 2002 manual jimny.

i want to know the correct ratio for the transfer case?

Jimny
I think that there are 1:1 (?) and 1.32:1 (?) transfer ratios. 4.3:1 (?) and 4.09:1 (?) Diff ratios and that the VVT manual gearbox is much lower in ratio as well.

SJ
ratios of 1.41:1 (1.3) and 1.58:1 (1.0)?

There seems to be alot of conflicting information on this out there.
I currantly run a set of 30", but willing to go to 33" to get some gearing options. just trying to gather as much info as i can so i can do some calculation and figure out which way to go. i am even considering going for an sj transfer or even vvt diffs the other option is to go for a vvt gearbox. will see what i come up with. will keep you all posted as to what i figure is the best way for me to go. i may just have to pull it out and have a look.

"well first I would figure out exactly if you want to go larger tyres or not ...

Definately a swap to a sj transfer ... Then throw some gears in it..
4.16 if your keeping the 30s
4.9 or 5.16 if your going to run 31s/32s
6.5 if your going 33s

Yeah, the only worry I have is that if I have a 1:1 transfer and I install 4.9:1 reduction gears (16%) which are intended for a transfer with 1.41:1 would that not be a much larger reduction? Like say I use 4.9's (1.63:1) that would be a 63% reduction, and that would suck.

that would bring your car back to factory on HI, but wht about LOW, it would be still the same as factory or ull have more reduction??

to be honest I would loooove bit more reduction, factory one works well but on big downhills it goes too fast for my taste...
