Hey guys bought my first sierra last week 97 model 130,000 pretty clean its stock. Whats the biggest tyre's i can get whilst keeping it stock height or miner lift. also what size goes good with the stock diffs,gearbox ect . What offset style wheels am i looking for can i get land cruiser,hilux wheels and get them re-drilled? all help is appreciated also do any of use know if riverstone bush is legal to drive in sydney

Im happy to change the rims. Im thinking like 30's - 32's. Are 32's to heavy for the little 1.3l

Anything over 215 will take work to fit. Gears, body lift, spring lift and body chopping etc.

31's with a 2" spring lift work great for me. BUT dont even bother without a gearing option.

if you run 2 inch bigger then stock so 29ish size tyres you will need to lookat lower gearing options in the leafy u can get lower gears for the t case or gears for the diffs but sence u have a coily u could look into getting a leafy t case and putting lower gears into it and modding it to fit ur coily if u search u can read all about the opions

31's are 10.5in wide. As far as gearing goes, just stick em on and fix the gearing later, you won't ever use 5th gear but it's not undrivable. When you do the gears, either find a 1L transfer case and swap it in, or buy yourself some aftermarket transfer case reduction gears from someone like lowrange offroad. I'm running 6.5:1 reduction gears in my transfer case

Does it break anything without changing the transfer case? Whats the transfer worth? Am i better off doing body or suspension lift? what offset wheels do i need? I want to keep it low as possible.

2in body lift or 2in spring lift with extended bump stops will be enough to clear the tyres, tho you may have to massage the seams on your inner guard a bit. You won't break anything by not changing the gearing, you will however go through your clutch a bit quicker

You want 15x8 with the biggest offset you can find. You want 2" springs as a minimum with lots of guard trimming and beating. You will need transfer gears if you don't want to be replacing clutches flat out. All this has been covered numerous times here, just search 'tires'

Just had a look plus I have the service manual changing the transfer looks pretty easy. Any body know what there worth and what I'm looking for and where to look. I'll have alook around the forum

ah so many questions grass hopper!
what is the main aim you want to achieve with your zook?
once you know this its easier to plan your mods.
such as: dedicated rock crawler vs long range touring rig
both totally different animals.
if you just want a capable offroad daily driver, looking at a 2'' suspension lift, some 30''s and some reduction gears, say 5.14's IMO.
than look at bar work front and rear, swing away spare tire mount and gerry holder on the rear bar parhap?
winch on the front if you will need it enough?
sliders to protect the sills?
diff locks?




make a plan of what you wish to achieve with the vehicle, than a list of mods and a budget............than multiply the budget by 3

The car will do 95% roads always in 2wd the occasional time on the sand and bush but nothing big. I just want it to look better fell the gaurds with some fat tyres whilst keeping it as low as possible

Haha. Do u need reduction gears if I only use 2wd?

if you throw bigger tires on you will still need reduction gears, even in 2wd as the drive still goes threw the transfer case and your high range will be to high with bigger tires.
you could get away with stock gearing amd 29's.... 30's would be biggest.
i run 31's on stock gearing and have done so for 18000km.
its alright in darwin as its flat and i can sit on 100kmh (1litre transfer also)
but hills are a mission and i have no crawl speed.
it is a toll on my exeddy heavy duty clutch and engine as well
run some 29's and you should get away with it.

30's are ok. I have a coily, it had 30's along with 2inch suspension and 2 inch body lift. Never rubbed and the gearing was ok.

1ltr transfer at LEAST. It's a dog to drive without reduction gears of some sort.
