Hey guys, I have just brought my first suzuki and have a few questions.
the vin plate on my car says SJ51 WD ute,
So I know it is a LWB,
Q1- how do I tell if it is Wide track or Narrow track..
Q2- the front and rear diff centres look the same both 8 bolt, are
they the same diff. no numbers on the diffs.
I cant find much on the gearbox except on top it has 87U on it not sure what this means but it has a 5 speed badge on it.

I have been reading this forum for about 2 weeks and have just signed up, I have so many questions but these are my first ones.

WT have metal flares about 80mm off the guard... narrow tracks have smaller rubber/plastic flares.

another sign is most NT have a 1L engine, WT have 1.3L - check the engine number... if it starts with G13... its a 1.3.

better way to tell is the nt's have front spring perchs directly under the chassis rail whereas wt's ate offset ~50mm outside

ALL SJ51T utes (Table tops) are Narrow Track. SJ51W (Wellside) LWBs were only available as widetrack for late 1988.

The front and rear diff centres are identical except for the splines in the side gears for the axle shafts, front is 22 spline, rear is 26 spline.

SJ51 is definately a 1.3.

ohhh its one of those mixed bag forest gump NT 1.3s where you never know what you're gonna get =)

thanks for the replys, it is a 1.3 ltr and now I know it is a narrow track as it had the rubber flares and the spring purch was on the chassis rail.
it is a October 87 model.
this gives me somewhere to start.
