i was just wondering where the best place to purchase reduction gears from? also if i go the 6.5:1 am i gonna be able to drive on the beach at all? just wanna do the odd bit of beach fishing used mainly for bush work. also does anyone install these if not how hard is it?

Probably loctup4x4 at the moment is the best place to buy from. Lowrange 4 wheel drive in the States is good, but given the value of the aussie dollar at the moment, may be better to wait a while. I have 6.5's in mine and I drive in high range on the beach unless I'm in really soft sand, then I switch to low range and use 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. In 5th gear with 31" tyres I guesstimate it's got a top speed of around 25km/h

i have TG 6.5s but wit the way the $ is i would look at a set of series 4 rockhoppers from BBM.
i think they are around $700.00.

the best ratio is the one that suits what you want to do and what tyres you have, I wouldnt have 6.5 in something with 31" or smaller, nor if you wanted to do a lot of beach work cause youll get teh shits with the speed gap

hey mate.. i was running rockhopper 6:5-1 for around 1300k's.. and cause i didnt strengthen the housing, i broke the housing in half, and smashed the gears. (hint.. strengthen the housing BEFORE you install gears!) I ended up getting a complete transfer from America (low range off road), fitted with 6:5-1 trail gears, and it was totally complete, minus shifter and oil. 1 year warranty on case, lifetime on gears. Delivered in 5 days for $1360 for memory.

nope, i dont believe i got any fee like that?? Sean is awesome to deal with to.. i reckon you would find it would be bugga all extra postage to get a "Cradle" sent over at the same time. Im sure Sean would send them both in the same package.. it would work out heaps cheaper. Not sure how mechanically minded you are, but it cost me an extra $260 for some new bearings, and for someone to install the gears for me (in my first transfer).
