woah, just saw someone pulled over by an unmarked white Hilux with Purple flashy lights on it. Office wearing a yellow hivis with 'compliance officer' on the back. writing out a ticket for a ute with an uncovered load of soil in the back.

SO whats the deal with these? im in NSW, do these guys have authority to pull you over? or can you just ignore them? Many people would be inclined to just take off. The thought would cross my mind if I was on my motorbike.

can take of if u want, don't get upset when the cops serve notice to you. They do have cameras fitted inside the vechiles like cops cars do.

cool. So if someone didn't have a compliant exhaust system for example, these guys can't prove it if you just take off. Unlike a copper who will hunt you down and you'll get busted ten times as hard for running.

I would say it was RTA. Would have been writing him up for the uncovered load.


Come drive trucks for a living and you can deal with these idiots who want to write you a ticket because you didn't spell the name of a town correctly or hold you on the weigh bridge for an hour going through your log book and your truck looking for a mistake or a problem so they get to write a ticket.

It's got me thinking, because my Jimny doesn't have any rear Rego plate lights. Also the rear number plate is quite hight up now since I modified it. On the RTA website I can only find rules regarding these two subjects under the section " Guidelines for lights and light signalling devices for heavy vehicles". Can't find any guidelines regarding light vehicles. Does any know if it is mandatory to have a rear rego plate light, and is there a limit on how high it can be?

For heavy good vehicles it can be no higher then 1.3m and it must have a light. Neither of which my little jimny has, so it's got me concerned, specially now I know that there are jobsworths going around looking for any excuse to write a ticket.

Squibby you definately need a rear number plate light. As for the height, well I'm not sure on the 'rules' but most ARB and Kaymar aftermarket bars require the numberplate to be relocated to the centre of the spare wheel. Take from that what you want.

I think you all have the wrong end of this stick - Most compliance officers work for the council like parking wardens - the truckies bogeymen work for the RTA in NSW etc.
