G'Day,

To purchase the new TrialJimny reduction gears for the 2010 Jimny and get them delivered to my door costs $1098. (2 years warranty)

Apparently plug and play, with nothing else to change. (I don't know if that's true or not)

Approx what would it cost to get them installed ? (Or how many hours would it take approx - mechanics charge $80/hour)

I'd say 4-5 hours to do it properly, asuming there is no other work that has to be done, such as grinding the case for clearance etc.

No case clearence needed as its a planetary gear set, very cool but weird.

The gearset itself sometimes needs to be clearenced to get it to slide, there are gears that slide within each other to get teh reduction in the plantery setup, the ones we got where a little tight, you will see what I mean when you get it.

With the really good exchange rate at the moment, I just thought it'd be a good chance to get them.

There are three different reduction percentages available - 20% is the minimum. I'd get this and still have "good" drivability on the bitumen.

Am I right in saying this or am I way off ?

Have you changed tyre sizes? What is the reason you need reduction gearing, other than off-road performance?

LJimny has these gears and with 33" it is very drivable

Ummmm, way off, they only do one set of gears for the Jimny, there are three sets for the Sierra, but they are heaps different.

On another forum (can't remember), but there are a few people with these gears that are running 215x75 tyres...and they love them.

I've just got the 215x75's - If I want to go bigger tyre in the future, then I'd still be ok.

I stand corrected, in that case I have no idea LJimny has the older Jimny gears in the case casue it is based on a 1999.

Just buy em and find out

Just for better off road performance. I wouldn't consider it at all, just if I was going to get them, now would be a good time...unless we go even higher with the exchange rate - then I'd be pissed !

They are currently on special for 500euro.

Just wondering if anyone would like to go in for some to save on freight.
I will be entering the order wednesday next week.

Also monkey, any chance you could divulge what they charged u in freight?

I had the 24% reduction with 235s, highway was awful, 5000rpm in 5th to do GPS 110km/h

I am about as mechanically minded as a frog in a letter box. I know.

It just seems like the easiest/cheapest/fastest route.

Whats your final cost on the t-case swap.

It is really ease for your model jimny mate, should only cost, you the conversion kit, t-case and some flanges plus oil.

$250 = Transfer case
$400 = Gearbox
$400 = conversion kit
$250 = Clutch
$200 = Misc
$50 = Oil

$1550 = TOTAL

Extras that wouldn't have been necessary if I started with a good transfer
$400 = rebuild transfer
$200 = replacement Transfer

$600 = TOTAL

[hr]

For a mark I or Mark II Jimny it would really only be;

$250 = Transfer case
$400 = conversion kit
$50 = Oil

$700 = TOTAL

Thanks mate that sounds sweet as...still a little bit more than the gearing but if it will suit the 235's easier, then i guess that seems the logical route.

I was nervous as well. TrialJimny though were really good. Every email I sent was answered straight away. It only took about a week to get here.
