Hey everyone,

I'm considering installing some driving lights on my Jimny and just wanted some opinions on driving light brands, pro's, cons, things to keep an eye out for etc...

i have a set of nite stalker 170's, and theyre just as good as my mates lightforce spotties. dont project as far, but they spread much further and brighter. and less than half of the cost!!. i picked up mine on sale for $116, but theyre normally about $150 at supercheap.

I don't mean mounting spot lights on a bull or nudge bar, I want to install some driving lights in the cut out/stock driving light position.

I'm looking at going HID's. I don't mind the Hella range, but with such a big range it's a bit hard to narrow it down to the correct/right pair.

I'm considering spending a couple of hundred to get some good quality lights, wiring, etc...

So Ive been ring around about driving lights, and as expected HID's are ridiculously expensive!

So does anyone have any real world advice or experience with some top quality driving light brands, (and I don't mean spotlights, driving lights that would fit into the cut out/stock driving light position) that project the light far, are bright and are reliable?

what sort of suzuki are you fitting them to?

simple, measure the hole & find something that fits.... there wont be much difference in output between the quality brands, it will be the style of light. if you wan penetration (hehe) go for a projector type lens/smooth reflector (spot) rather than a diffused lens &reflector (spread).

good globes & a decent wiring loom will make a bit of difference, but they are going to be limited by the size.

Those are not "driving light" positions - they are fog light positions.

Fog lights are distinctly different to driving lights - the requirements are different, the designs are different and the mounting is different - for a fog light you want a wide beam with a sharp horizontal cut off and you mount them low - you're trying to avoid having the light reflect off of the fog and back into the driver's eyes, dazzling him/her

For a driving light you want range - if you mount them low the beam strikes the road closer to the vehicle, unless you aim them upwards, in which case they dazzle the drivers in the oncoming traffic - for this reason they are mounted higher up. There are different type of driving beam - pencil/spot and spread which of course have their own uses.

I understand that cut out position is generally fitted with fog lights but I would much prefer to install some compact driving lights in the positions.

Or do you guys recommend I install some fog lights? If so why fog lights compared to some driving lights?

If I was to install driving lights I would probably go with pencil beam.

lightforce 240 blitz. i love mine. i have one pencil beam and the other with a crystal blue spread beam. i live in the country and do alot of night driving and they are great! i have light from my doors forward.

What I am pointing out is that if you use a fog light mounting position for driving lights - they will be less effective because they are closer to the road than they should be, and will limit the range.

Since you're now asking if you should install fog lights - go read the post again - it tells you what the differences are.

What is you want the lights for?

To see in fog - use fog lights.
To see in the distance - use driving lights - and mount them properly.

For bling - it doesn't matter - pick one that fits.
