i have put new brakes on the rear of my zook!

new cylinders and pads, but i can't get the drum bac on! the pads sit to wide

is there some type of adjustment thingy somewhere or have i done it wrong?

disconnect the handbrake cable

the adjuster is the cam looking thing with the serrated edge on it, you need to get a screwdriver in where the 2 bits meet to push it in.

put the drums on, give the pedals a few pumps and spin the drums a bit and repeat the pedal pumping until the pedal is good, then hook the handbrake back up and adjust it

i pushed in the middle and it went in but the pads didn't move!

wiggle em a bit, sometimes they suck to line up and get in

Push the cylinder together too, that might get you some more movement

Aren't you supposed to have your shoes ground to match your drums or something like that? Not that I did when I last changed shoes.

You need to be careful, there are two different size drums. You need the right shoes for the drums

Damo, yes yuou should if you are talking oversize drums through machining

ScrawnC, its a coily so I think there is only one set, but not to say he hasnt got 1 litre front shoes or something

That's what I was thinking, maybe they gave him the wrong shoes?

Did you check your drums to see if they needed machining?

make sure you didn't put 2 of the same shoes on the same side

i have had the drums machined!

and its for my ute royce not he coily! do they have different shoes?

yes there are about 700 different types

how far off fitting are they?

not much prob around 2mm

bfh then swear when you realise they gave you the wrong pads..
i was given two sets by a mate that worked at a brake place .. when compared next to each other one of the sets holes were slightly diff and the pad overall was longer if that makes sense. :S

yea i just had a measure of my cylinders and they are 5mm longer than my old ones

same has happended to me a few times. Usually just squeeze everything together and just fits on. One time i swapped the drums to the other side of the car and it fitted. or grab a slightly more worn drum that you have laying around and it'll fit.

I think you can also get different brake cylinders which may push the brake shoes out further, making it impossible to get the drum on.

Just check all the bits you bought with your old bits to see if they're all the same.
