Everyone one seems to either hate them or loves them and I wanna know reasonings both in theory and in prac. But if you have actually ran them please also say so. But also if you havent and you still got a opinion you can chuck that up here too.
Ps try not to start arguments!
Thanks guys

Firstly, I've never run lux diffs.
The arguments against being:
- The rear diff pumpkin is centred, which can introduce vibrations with the angled tailshaft back to the transfer case.
- The large diameter of the pumpkin will reduce diff clearance unless exceptionally large tyres are used (35" +).
- They are SPOA from the factory, and must be used in SPOA configuration to comply with the needs of most engineers.

Sorry mate by me saying hilux diffs I mean hilux/bundy diffs and has anyone measured the pumpkins? I just wanna see comparison sizes
What about if you shaved them how much meat can you shave out of he hilux diff compared to a zook diff?

My Arguments for:
Greater strength than wt with chromo axles and alot of parts are easily upgradeable with off the shelf parts
More steering options
Pumpkin/housing is not much bigger than wt sierra's But can be shaved for more clearance
Rear bundera diff can be used to align driveline better in rear. Still using hilux centre
Still legal in Nsw, not Qld.
Heavier than sierra's. Can be a pro and a con.
Wider for more stability

Legal with mod plate ? Or can't get a mod plate for them?

No diff swaps in Qld allowed alltogether.
Legal in Nsw, but has to be engineered.

you can do diff swaps in qld legally in other cars. i think its the fact of it being needed to be done spoa? and do ya need to change chassis configuration which is a big no no in qld?

not sure on legalities, but you can run them spring under, just have to change the perches, dont need to play with the chasis to run them.

aren't bundera diffs spring under anyway? there is a 75series sitting in my drive way and it is spua. on 31 it has bugger all clearance and it gets stuck very easily but that is with it big leaves. i have alot more clearance on 235 75 15 in my vit than it does.

id rather patrol diffs over hilux diffs, patrol diffs are alot stronger for running larger tyres IE 40inch +.

true, but if the rig is that wild to run huge diffs on 40's.... i reckon some uni mog diffs would be better.
i want a uni mog.

Would 60 series diffs still not be a more sensible option than hilux?

kinda sorta. the pumpkin is a fair amount bigger, so you loose some ground clearance.
but if your running 40's..... not really a prob.

This argueing is getting annoying. Everyone has their own thought on what is better and they all want to win.
60' diffs
Pro's:
Alot of gearing options
Alot of steering options(same as lux bits)
Alot of hub bits (same as lux)
Axles can be upgraded with off the shelf parts
Stronger centres than hilux due to size.
Full floating rear(major pro)
Rear is offset for zook transfer
Pro and con:
Cheap
Heavier than zooks
Larger pumpkin, good for centre strength, but no good for clearance, can be shaved.
Same cv size as lux. So basically same strength as lux altogether up front.
Not much wider than lux

has any one actually measured the clearance of a hilux pumpkin? i have
measured a early hj75 (big diff model) diff clearance and the hj on
33s has the same clearance
as a sierra on 31s so that is approximately 25mm less clearance for the HJ if on the same tyres.
i bet hilux diff clearance would be so close to a sierra that the difference would be irrelevant especially when the
extra width and strength is taken into account.

and a good shave would bring it back to sierra size.

Although I like the Hilux diff option here are some other things to consider:
1. Hilux rear diff at 1420mm is only 120mm wider overall than a WT Sierra
with is 1300mm wide.
2. Hilux diff (complete) is twice the weight of a WT Sierra diff, adding so much weight to your nimble Suzuki may detract from its agility.
3. Due to weight and size a Hilux Diff robs a significant amount of power from the vehicle especially if you intend to use it on road. Gearing can correct it but you rob from peter to pay paul, needing higher rpm to achieve highway speeds.
4. The added weight places undue stress on all suspension mounting points which were designed for a much lighter diff. (There is a video somewhere on the site with a hilux diffed suzuki rolling over backwards when under power up a steep track the diff rips the spring mounts from the chassis)
5. The size of the pumpkin is not the only factor in reduction of ground clearance, the diameter of the Hilux diff tube is 25mm bigger (OD) than a WT Sierra so if you are doing a spring under axle after you weld the saddles on the housing the centre of the axle will be 12.5mm up closer to the guard. Or if you look at it the other way the spring will be 12.5mm lower in comparison to the centre of the axle than it would be in a WT Sierra axle.
6. Suzi-fan-22, it is not just the exterior that is bigger, the centre is bigger inside so you can't shave much off mate.

x3.. Has been 100% reliable, much better whilst off roading, bloody love them!!
