my key is in the ignition barrel and wont turn or come out. whats going on? how do i get it out?

or worst case pull the cover off and hammer and chisel the factory headless bolts off, remove the barrel and see if that does it?

Yep, penetrating oil and wiggle. You should be able to remove the barrel somehow

Happens to me every now and then try turning it backwards and wiggle vertically. That works for me

sierra. steering lock isn't on. have dumped 1/2 a can of inox into it over the last week.

yeah its the burnt car. i hosed the barrel out and illed it with innox then put the key in and turned it past the steering lock.
went back to it 2 weeks later and it is locked up.

i have never even heard of ozspray lock didnt even get warm however
would have coped a dose of dry powder, i am sure i held the gurni on it for a minute or so.

I had a similar problem with this corolla I have.

The key was that worn away that I could remove the key with the car still running, one day it decided not to come out and it wouldn't turn at all, I sprayed WD into it but still nothing.

Then I got thunking on how the ignition barrel or pad lock works, obviously pins have to move in in order for it to work. I pushed up and it slid out after a couple of jiggles.

I got a new key cut but still had the same issue, obviously the new key was based on the worn key.

Again, wouldn't come out or anything. After about an hour of fart arsing around I ended pushing the key up and managed to turn the barrel to ign, at that point I had pretty much most of the steering column pulled apart. A quick Youtube lerned me how to remove the barrel. just a matter of pushing in a pin with the right size centre punch out out it slid.

I replaced the barrel along with the door locks to suit the same key.

I hope this trick helps you out.

when we remove this stuff, we put it through a parts washer.. maybe try some wd40 down the guts of it, it may of gone all tacky

key now works. i dumped 1/2 a can of contact cleaner into the barrel and then 1/2 a can of wd40
and got cranky with some vise grips.
works like a new one except there is now no steering lock.
