welding rear

im trying to get the diff centre out but where u unbolt the brakes i seem to strip them like i did on the last sierra and this 1 they are stiff aswell any ideas on this i was thinking about getting a open ring spanner and cuuting a slit in to it and slidding it on

a quick reply would be good couse i want to get all this done nice and quick to get it back on the road

I'm guessing the brake line. Use a pair of quality vice grips

yeah get yourself a set of pipe spanners.

welding the rear will drive like shit on road. why not just spend a bit of money for spartan lockers or sumthin ? much better and less wearing on the diff

yes i was thinking about that but every1 says that welding is a bit safer couse its more predictable and yer my last auto in the rear wasnt to bad but yer i dont have much money atm

Why not stop being a cheap ass and buy a minispool?

$80 and fully reversible?

you could go back to open could'nt you if you got rid of the old spider gears and put other 1's in could'nt you?

The four spider gears gets welded up to reverse you'll need to replace all gears or chuck in a new center into the housing

best mod i ever did. highly recommend it. i assume welded rear would be fine, but i dont know how to weld.

I've seen some NASTY weld jobs to lock diffs. Spider gears welded to each other, spider gears welded to pins and spider gears not even visible from a pile of shit welded to everything!

No offense to you ofcourse but for the time and effort put in welding and trying not to fuck it you can pay $80 for a slipin mini spool. Remove spider gears and store for when you get sick of paying for tyres.

This also is my best mod so far. Offroad ability has doubled, if not more. Rutted hill climbs no longer leave me frustrated and winching!

only problem, which as people say, i often find that i get way further than i should before i think "f**k wrong line!"... doesnt happen much anymore, but at first it did!

Low range use to have them for around $80 but there over a $100 now.

like 160 is going to break the budget..

Brakelines: use a good quality open end spanner, or pipe spanner or vicegrips if fooked already..

I usually hit the spanner quick to undo, And do it up slow by hand.

I kinda don't understand this modding on the cheap bit. So you can't afford a few hungey 4 a reversible locker setup but you will be able to afford a new center for the diff if it all goes pare shaped and the coin for the extra wear on your treads?

It's a chance thing. Welding a diff costs pratically nothing and there's a fair chance it'l work.

A second hand centre is cheaper than an autolocker or minispool too.

The tyre wear effect (as will every other effect, if it's welded properly) will be the same as a minispool.
