Pulled my brake drums of today cus there were some strange noises coming from them. When you turn the axle with the drum on...it make's a grinding noise....take the drum off...no noise

Any way i had a look at the pad's

This is what they looked liked:





There is plenty of meat left on the bottom of the shoe (as you can see in the pics) but up the top is was worn away to nothing

So what i would like know

A) Would the en-even where cause the noise with the drums on?

B) Am i better of getting new shoe's from repco or get Suzuki one's?

C) Why has this happened?

Any help would be very much appreciated as the noise is getting worse by the day .

Your the second person to have this problem.
I have it to. Ive traced it down to the diff center I'm pretty sure.
I have taken one side of the acle out and it still making grinding noise.

Dose your's only make noise when the drum's are on tho?

Just throwing it out there... But the hubs aren't oval shaped a little are they? Would make sense as to why they've worn uneven?

Mine only make the noise with the drum's on...so it's got to be some thing to do with the break's....wonder if they need baking of a bit....i think they may just be rubbing?

When I priced new drums, shoes and cylinders for the Vit,
BenT's rear disc conversion was cheaper.

Fit discs, all brake probs are gone

wheel cylinder pushes out both ways, probably seized on one side

I dunno, can't read Italian,

BenT's kit includes a hand brake cable modifying bracket, and the calipers have handbrake on them.

they wear like that cause the drum is a different diameter to the shoe, its normal

the noise is also normal

The fluid is degreaser cus there was mud and shit in there.

The noise is not normal tho....it's really loud when you turn a corner or change lane...but in a straight line there is no noise....that's got me thinking it's a wheel bearing maybe?

If it gets worse when cornering, a wheel bearing is likely cause.

I don't know if BenT does a Jimny kit, or wether it fits Jimnys.

If enough people wanted one, I'm sure he could crank some out

Wonder if the sierra kit would fit cus they are the same diff, just wider right?

Somebody with a disc rear sierra could come round so you can measure, if there is anyone.
My Sierra disc conversion was made by a mate,
with Angle grinders 4"and 9" and hole saws, but he very clever.

they will always wear like that,there is generally a leading side that will wear fist, when you fit em up make sure the leading and following shoe are fitted the right way. mud and shit wears shoes out pretty quick

this is the reason im going rear disc on mine... drums are just a pain in the ass. i have noticed though that since avoiding mud at all costs my brakes are lasting longer and i reckon working twice as good as they used to. i even managed to do an emergency brake the other morning and avoid t-boning some fuckhead who turned across my lane, saw me and stopped in the middle of the lane... missed by like 200mm, but i reckon if the brakes had been mudded i prolly wouldnt gone half way through his engine bay.

funny thing I cant still see any calipers

The thing I don;t get about the zanfi kit is how you attach the rotors, I suppose that piece is not included?

I had my drums turned down to make adapters, but have not installed the discs yet.

Ok i got new brake shoes today....i have not put them on yet cus i have never change shoes before....so where do i start? Is it just a matter of sliding the old one's straight out? Or what?

Take the wheels off
