Hey guys Im about to buy my first sierra. The guys said is a bit jumpy ant low speeds if you take your foot off the gas then put it back on. He says it happens cause he has put diff lockers on. Is this normal????

One more thing Im going to look at it tomorrow and have no Idea what to look for can any one help?????

He claims no rust. Now im not a wanker and realise that these little bad boys go off road so a few war wounds wont bother me!

check the sills, notorious for rust. if it still has the plastic cover on it pull it off partially and check.

if its a constant locker ie not an airlocker then yes it could cause it to lock in/out (be jumpy) i beleive it also happens when cornering sometimes with acceleration. also check around floor bungs, thats where mine had rust coming through

never had auto lockers before but from what i've read thats how they work,
they are known for getting rust under the plastic sills under the doors but he might not want you pulling them off to check, i've heard a good way to check for repairs is to take a magnet as the magnet will stick to metal under the paint but if it has been bogged then it shouldnt stick if you get what i mean?


and just the normal stuff like changing through all the gears etc with no noise

the sills are quite easy to partially take on and off, if you dont want to do it while his there take it for a quick drive, pull over and check.

other spots for rust include around the windscreen hinge and i had some forming on the air vent grill under the windscreen behind the bonnet.

PS if the fuel gauge doesnt work, its a sierra thing and easy to fix but hassle him about it haha.

I don't know much about lockers, but when a car is jumpy at slow speeds in the situation like you explained, it can also be a fuel/spark issue. Just keep that in mind as well.

Mine isnt jumpy at low speeds. Only thing is moving around on concrete/road at low speeds while accelerating it chirps. other than that it clicks or does nothing.

See if you can pry the b pillar plastic trim back a little and peak behind that. I found some today.

Sierra rust spots

Inside engine bay behind headlights
Lower corner parts of window frame/corner of body
Behind B pillar plastics (normally a smooth dome rivet, If it been touched, people put screws or pop rivets in..
Seat mounts crack, Can be inspected on passenger side better
Front footwells around plugs and check -whole- floor.
Rear tray door seal on body. Pull it off abit, Dirt gathers under it and rust.
Sills under doors will definaetly have rust, but hard to see under plastic and metal channels for plastic.
Bottom of doors, Outside and underneath inside

Erm..Its a sierra, It going to have rust.

How? I followed Royce's (I think) guide in the Tech section ... actually had two sender units here, and played with both of them ... checked the sender arm was contacting properly, cleaned off the contacts, etc. Both still read the same and completely dodgy

I'd just decided they did it from factory?!
