^^^ That's good to know - something i'd never have guessed. So really, just a crimp and a bit of heat shrink should be enough?

Otherwise if it's joining two lenghts i'm guessing you just twist the wires together and shrink it tight?

For joining 2 wires together in a permanent connection I do solder them, but then I use a couple layers of heatshrink for strength. Granted it's not the best as connectors should be used but meh...

Not to mention when it corrodes the wire away totally leaving you with no connection

Solder fixes this wonderfully as is seals the join with lovely corrosion free lead and tin, you would have to be pretty ham fisted to solder and secure a loom poorly enough that vibration might make it fail, indeed I think any kind of crimp terminal available to most people here would vibrate loose in the same conditions

Had a quick thought today that crimps and other connectors also add a bit of weight to the wiring hence vibration could cause more problems over the soldering option.
