so i want lockers in the front of my 89 swb vitara i the near future, but its got any alloy diff, i belive you need a steel on for lockers. where do i get these out of? hard to find?

does any one know much about the china songlockers? any good? pictures will be given of my beautiful once its done. not long now

the steel diffs come out of manual V6 SQ625 Grand Vitara's, depending on where you look depends on how hard they're to find & how much. if you're locking the front of a Vitara you'd me mad not to build up a steel diff.

the chinese copylockers are around $600, have a search as there are a couple of threads going with pics & prices.

being an 89 SWB Vitara yours will be a 22 spline, diff you'll have to upgrade to 26 spline RHS CV & the 26 spline LHS axle that goes in the diff.

Most wreckers won't separate the axle housing from the diff centre anyway.
So that option is unlikely, but still better than nothing.

Some XL7's have the right diff,
also some GV's can have wrong diff.

Need the diff type that looks similar to your alloy one.
Not the salisbury type found in some.

I used my Vitaras complete centre, ring pinion and I used Sierra front side gears,
as mine is 22 spline.

The GV diff I used had a strange hubs lock in diff, not on the end of axles.

I wanted to run my manual hubs.

PS theres 2 types of mounting points for the cross member mount,
You can use either type,
but make sure you get the mount, too,
if needed

yeah you want one from a SQ625 manual, as the auto's came out with an alloy diff, the 98-99 mount is identical to the Vitara, from about 99 onwards they changed the mount design slightly which. you'll need to grab the complete GV pinion mount as the way it bolts to the diff is different but bolts up to the same spot on the crossmember. if you're running the calmini kit & don't want to fabricate a new bracket the early pinion mount is the one you want. then as Chris said there is a later "salisbury" type of diff that came in some GV's & the XL-7

you can just run the steel 3rd member as that is where they usually crack, the housing can crack in some weird spots including the RHS diff bracket mount & the banjo part of the housing.

i scored a brand new later type steel 3rd member off ebay for just over $100 going back a couple years ago, still in the SGP suzuki box & wrapping. i got the one in the silver princess for $300 about 3 years ago, sold one to Joe for $400 + post earlier this year. i think wreckers/people are starting to realise how sought after they're getting.

i guess you just have to know where to look & have the cash ready to pounce.

you'll use ring & pinion + centre from your diff & fit that lot into the steel 3rd member.

ok thanks alot for all the info, im planning on tracking one down so i can get some decent tyres, maybe front locker too

just finished school and start my apprenticeship next january, so got heaps of time to spend on the zook

keep an eye on ebay for people wrecking GV's, you might get lucky with a bargain.

I used online parts locator sites to find my Steelie.
Some have an option of uploading pix,
to make sure you get right one.
