Quick question- Is there enuff room to sleep in a early 2000 model Grand Vitara? I assume the seats fold down flat?

i have a 95 lwb vitara ,the seats dont lay flat so when wifey and i intend on sleeping in it we remove rear seats completely and fit a sheet of ply with down legs to floor behind front seats ,, with our double swag it sticks out about 6inch or so ... doesnt bother us we are short and can shut rear door .... dont know if this helps ,but thats how we sleep when its too windy or raining for a tent .... khanacross

Not really unless you are a midget.
You can get the front seats almost flat by taking the head rests off but the rear seat back doesn't go back all the way flat.
You could survive for one night but it's not a multi-night solution.
Take a swag.

If you take out the bottom part of the rear seats, which fold up behind the front seats, and fold the upper rear back rests down flat, then lay the front seats down, and butt them up the back upper seats, you could easily throw a mattress in there, and sleep totally flat, with head/foot room to spare !
Its a bit hard to explain unless you see it...
This is what i will do if i go camping in it...

Ive had plenty of nights sleep in my old swb vitara, should be heaps of room / more comfortable in a gv, just recline the front seats as far as they go

Could have put up my three room dome tent by then Ideally, there would only be 2 peoples in the GV, that way, you could have most of the back seat set up already, then just recline the front seats, unroll the mattress, and done... to easy !

I had to re-read that 3 times to work out what ya ment.....lol So what ya saying is, with the back seat layed flat there's enough room to have a kip. How long an area -say back of front seat to tailgate- do you think there is? I'm 5.11 and sooner not curl up in a ball to sleep.
As for the swag / tent option, Yeah, I have both, and I'd sooner avoid using both for an over-nighter. Laying in the car away from the bities with a cd going sounds way better

This is a double mattress that the missus and I had for our trip around the pilbara in the 04GV. Just did the same as what mac said. Bit of a shit pic though.

Laying in the car away from the bities with a cd going sounds way better Haha, yeah its difficult to explain...i will try again, lol... the bottom part of the back seat, the part your bum sits on, normally folds up behind the front seats, and the part you back goes on, lays flat behind the bum bit, the bum bit wont lay flat, so to be able to have your body to lay flat in the GV, you need to unbolt the bit your bum sits on, and remove it, then you lay the front seats flat, and slide them back, up to the part of the back seat that is laying flat, then you can throw a mattress in and sleep completely flat..
I will try and get some pics if this doesnt make sense... lol...

Thanks for the pic Greg, definitly shows there's enuff room to have a decent kip. Stoked with that, as I have no hope of sleeping in the back of my LWB Vitara. Not without ripping the seats out and building a false floor with ply...stuff that, way too much effort.
And a roof basket for the exiled camping gear etc is a good idea.
