So the story is, gradually over the last few weeks my 2001 Suzuki Jimny with a M18 1.8L engine installed has been falling to start. It ticks over, fuel pump turns on as normal and the starter cranks it over as it should. But does not start up.
But if I turn it off, lock and unlock the doors and give the immoboliser mechanism a shake it turns on fine
Until this time last week..
The guys at our local auto electricians are baffled by it and cant get it to start at all. They are certain it is because the car the engine came out of (a 2005 Liana) had a key with a chip it it registered with the immoboliser/car. So now that the immoboliser/ecu and motor are in the jimny (a car with a different key) it wont start.
If you guys have any ideas or possible solutions I will pass them on to the guys down at the auto elecs.
Thankyou!

Immobilisers suck! Someone threw me my keys once and the whole casing came open and I lost the whole bit inside.
Mine was in an excel and it was in a box external to the ECU. Maybe you could get it cut out of the jim or is it part of the ECU or something? Mine was wired to stop the fuel pump and the ignition wasn't hard to cut out.
Makes a good get away car now...

O great.. my nearest suzuki dealership is 120kms away Is that the only solution?

The immoboliser is separate from the ecu, so it could be possible to get it removed...

The guru once told me Liana doesnt have an ecu
They also certainly wouldnt talk to each other then gradually not talk to each other over time, it jsut wouldnt work at all from the get go
I think whoever is trying to figure it out needs to do some decent basic diagnostic work, see if it has spark and fuel and work from there

Thats what I would have thought too, if it wasnt going to run with the set up it has it wouldnt have ran in the first place?
But I'm pretty sure its a liana ecu, its a black box about as big as your hand under the dash on the passenger side with "liana 2005" written on it in gold texta other then that I havent had a good look at it

I thought Liana's came factory with an immobiliser. I'm not sure if it could be bypassed or not.

Every car sold after around 2000 had to have an immobilizer to be sold in aus, pretty sure they are built into the ECU on jimnys from what ive heard, lianas having the same wiring loom i guess it would be inbuilt too
Does the imob light flash/come on/ do anything with the ing on???

SOLVED (but not fixed)
Originally the chip from key of the 2005 Liana was taped to the immoboliser. This has come off and must have stuck to some ones foot, or the the original auto electricians overalls and as such has left the car. So that explains why the original auto elec couldnt get it to start at his shop, after we had just drove it there. As to why the tiny chip was taped there and not the whole key is beyond me.
So now that my current auto elecs have found this issue I now have to get it trucked to Wagga Wagga to their suzuki dealership. A new key for a 2005 liana has been ordered (for $200), that key will be programed to the the immoboliser and attatched to it firmly. If its possible they said they might be able to mount the immoboliser in its proper position around the ignition barrell, cut the key to suit the car and program the key to lock and unlock the doors....... One hell of a fuck around.
So I'm prepared for a $400+ bill......

Is that it? That's cheap. It cost me $700 once to get a ford explorer key to talk to the ecu after we lost the original keys out fishing.

Yeah from what i can gather suzuki computers are like mac operating systems. Fort knocks! Our auto elec said he can get into most computers in cars to change bits and peices, but he has no access to suzuki's. He can see all the data but cant modify or change a thing

My key is just a standard key, no transponder, just a key.
And I cant see why a 2005 liana key wont program into a 2005 liana ecu and 2005 liana immoboliser??
Edit: Just figured out what RKE means. So now im confused
My remote for the central locking is a separate button/remote, genuine suzuki button/remote though.
Edit 2: OOOOOOOH WAIT now I get, will I be able to get the RKE put into the new key despite it originally being in a separate remote/button

Yeah it would be a piece of piss to do it if you could read the code it sends the ecu and replicate it, so if you have it talking you may as well jsut use it

Hey Omalley, this may sound like a stupid question but did you jimny come with the M18 motor or did you install it?

UPDATE:
CAR STILL DOESNT RUN
2 guys from work (both mechanics) took it over to "Wagga Inland Suzuki" about 2 weeks ago and they have been absolutely brilliant from the word go! From the insanely knowledgeable receptionist lady, who got her head around an issue that even we were struggling to explain. Ordering us the correct key and getting the right info to the mechanics. Even to the 2 mechanics from suzuki, who, as soon as it arrived, downed tools on the jobs they were doing and came straight over. They did all the programming, refitting and whatever else while it was on the trailer, sent our guys over to grab lunch and a coffee next door and said it would be done in 20-30mins.
They met their promise, and did have all they were expecting had to be done to solve the missing transponder thing.. But it still wouldnt fire D;
Turned out there was (and still is) another issue.. One they have been toying over for the last week or so, testing and swapping out parts. Using second hand bits trying to diagnose the issue without in costing me three eyeballs, two kidneys and a small portion of my leg.
BUT this does explain why it was gradually deteriorating, failing to start more and more frequently. The fact the chip was tossed out (accidently) by an auto elec was purely coincidental.
All I know is it is in good hands!

Not personally but Silo did allow me to pass on his details to our Auto Elecs (the second lot, not the one who lost the chip)

Its encrypted and changes all the time so you can't just copy the data stream. From what I've seen there shouldn't be any problem programming a Liana to run on a Jimny as long as you programme it as a Liana, they seem to use different addresses to store the data between models. On like models you can just swap the SEEPROM.

GOOD NEWS!
My Black Jimny will be ready next Tuesday!!
After all the stuffing around it was a frayed wire buried in the loom causing the whole problem!
The mechanic at Wagga Inland has been awesome, he said today "dont worry, I'm fixing up the little things so It looks like a brand new car", re mounting the immoboliser, ecu and tidying up the wiring to make it all look factory. Definetly worth the wait!
Just a pity I fly out to Fiji (the next day) Wednesday morning
