hi guys,

i'v just ordered 4 rear (EFS) 65mm lifted rear sierra springs. I 'm going to do the rear up front and was just wondering if there is going to be any issues using the 65mm lifted springs? I know people have used the ome 40mm lifted springs and havent had any issues with them doing the ruf. At the moment i can't see there being any issues but i thought i would check with you guys?? The rest of my setup will include 2inch extended shackles, and the hiace/commo gabriel shock with bump stop extensions.

65mm will be stiff as, you'll need to remove a couple of the leaves to make it comfy. How are you doing the RUF, full or half? Shackles on the rear will be really rough too, stick to standards.

yes i know it wont work on my old coily sierra.

plan was to remove 1 or 2 leaves. will also have a bit of weight in the zook later down the track aswell. I will be redrilling the spring hanger back slightly, then drilling the spring perch to move the diff forward. will the rear be rough because of the shackle angle?

With the arch of the 65mm springs and the longer shackles the angle with be almost vertical.

what if i drill the rear spring hanger further back, then drill the spring perch forward?? would this solve the problem?

just pull some leafs out, it will sag and fix your shackle angle.

yeh, i think i'll pull the small load leaf out of each as i have heard that efs are pretty stiff.

i'd take out more than the load leaf if you want a better shackle angle mine had efs rears with load leaf removed and the standard shackles were nearly verticle

which leaf inparticular should i remove? dont want to remove the wrong one and damage them.

take the load leaf out and maybe the third one down, leave the second longer one so you don't bend the main leaf

That would be much better, as having the same lifted rear springs in the front, as you do in the rear can sometime nett a larger lift at the front end, making your zook look like its draging its bum down the road.

IMO the best way to do RUF is with 2" lifted rears, and move the front shackle hanger forward 40-50mm depending on the difference between 'eye to eye' lengths on your springs.

Redrilling the fixed hanger only works with certain brands of spring as lengths vary with different manufacturers........ you can only redrill the fixed hanger about 20-25mm safely from memory, and thats just enough with standard rear springs up front, but not enough for lifted RUF.

springs will be hear next week so it looks like it's going to be a bit of trial and error. I'll defently be removing some leafs from the pack after reading through the different forums on the net.

'fatzook' i was planning on making a slight extension if i need to for the spring hanger like 'dee' has done.

all springs and shocks are in. Just have to fit the brake lines and then extend the bump stops. Flexed it up earlier and it seemed pretty decent, still has a bit left in it.

hey hooki when you say you ordered your springs did they get delivered to you or a shop? what did it cost per spring? i was going to run the springs in there proper places running only like 3 leaves to get it to sag a bit and flex better. is this a good idea?

i ordered them through a shop. I know the guy there so i got all 4 springs plus u bolts and bushes for $630. Not to sure on individual prices or the springs. I'm running 3 leaves on the front and it seems to be pretty soft. they are flexing realy good atm. for the work involved, i would do the ruf if i was you, takes maybe an extra hour or two of work. Does require longer shackles and brake lines though.

no its more the legalities involved with RUF that bothers me considering im on my L plates and then three years of P's i dont want to lose my licence for shit like extended shackles and stuff like that

It'll be interesting to see how the shackle angle goes once your springs settle in a bit. It looks pretty tall at the moment!

yeah i love the height of yours at the moment and im thinking down the track doing what you have done with ruf in the front and use the old front springs to 3/4 elliptical in the back to have great flex but it will either have to be a trailer queen or i dont drive it on the road very often

yeh it seemed way to tall when i first installed them but thank god it has settled in the front a bit with only little driving so hopefully after a few trips it should be sweet. i'll have to remove another leaf in the rear like i did the front so it settles a bit. I geuss if it doesnt go low enough i could always remove the body lift.
