i dont have any of the controls for hot or cold wind in my sierra.
if i just have a on/off switch for the fan, a pull out knob for the heater tap, a
pull out knob for the aircon vent thing and a on/off switch for the compressor
will i have success?

i plan on just ducting everything to the dash vents and not worrying about foot or windscreen vents.

will the above work or is there another way of going about it without having to source shitloads of OE bits?

they never worked. cables were seized and when i replaced the dash i just cut the cables.

fan switch never worked heater has never been connected.

switch for the fan is ok, though speeds could still be doable with an off on on switch

switch for the AC is ok as long as its only powering all the other pressure and temp bizzos that control the compressor, not just running it flat out, you also need to set it up so the AC cant turn on without the inside fan running so it doesnt freeze up and explode

on my 1 litre with a stuffed heater tap, I just used to open the bonnet in winter and turn the tap on in winter and then back off in summer

that might be the go for the heater cos i am only going to need it when i drive to
the AZ meet up next year.

how do i set the pressure switch and thermostat things up to work off a switch.
i have a vitara i can rob bits from.

run power though the air con switch. from there run it in series through the high preassure switch then the low preassure switch. then through a realay that activates the aircon fan then through another realay to activate your compressor clutch.

I am sure its not much more than it all being in a big loop that switches a relay for a compressor, if the vit was aftermarket air you could likely use the loom

it just so happens i did an advanced automotive aircon last week.lol.
all the learning and i havent touched one since and dont look like using it for the next year or two.

Im sorting out the lines atm for mine. I have the full sierra loom minus the temp sender.

I found out i cant run the sierra comp as the mount wont go onto the baleno block nicely.. So i have a full custom bracket for a newer more common Jimny 'm' series comp and AUcoon ps pump..


So Shep You need a sierra temp sender? So do i.. Does anyone know what temp this sends? I have the baleno one for the ecu..Will this work? Not sure of what wire/temp this is..

Also, Does anyone know what kind of pressure the system runs at? I have to cut and join some hoses to suit new comp. Will a barb and hoseclamps be ok or should i get them connected/clamped in a shop?


The sierra a/c loom is a complete plug in system. Is this what you have shep?

cant use barb and hose clamp, no place will fill it (i hope) as its not complient.
system runs on the high preassure side (after compressor before evapourater) about 200-250 psi under normal operating conditions. low preassure side about 15-35psi.

where does the temp sensor connect? may be able to help if i know whereabouts its located.

Would pirtek or similar be able to join hoses with alloy fittings?

When i pulled out my system out of another car The temp sender was in the front under the thermostat housing. Screwed into the intake manifold side. You may have a plug there, Unsure how sierra's get their temp guage working..Can't remember

yeah i remember a similar temp sensor on my old turbo lancer i believe it is a closed switch that opens when the engine temps get too high and cuts out the compressor.

Only has 1 wire going to it with a male barb connector

if it only has one wire than it must get its feed from the ecu, that would be why aircon wont work without it. with my old lancer it had two wires and i just joined them when the switch shat itself.

i only have the sierra under dash box thing that attaches to the fan thing.
going to attempt to get a working aircon out of parts from my vit
donor car and bits from repco.

condensor should never freeze up, but if the intake temps are too high then the gas wont turn back into a liquid. maybe this is why temp sender is here royce?.
the only other temp sender is on the evapourator in the cab. this adjusts how much fluid is sprayed into the evapourator to cool it.
