As the title suggests.

Has anyone done a MK1/2/3 conversion using the Dizzy cap and rotor button off a Mazda 323 GTX 1.6L turbo 1989 model?

I want to know if you had any isseus with it?

Apparently You can use the GTi rotor button with the 323 Cap?

Yeah sorry your correct however my distributer is different to his (well certainly looks different. MY 323 gtx rotor cap wont go fully on it seems the the MK1 dizzy shaft.

Problem im having is trying to get a rotor button to adapt to the cap.

What rotor button are you trying to use?

I'm sure I read somewhere that the cap doesn't go straight on, it needs a little trimming/clearancing. EDIT: Chinney mentions that the shaft has been trimmed 4mm, perhaps that is to avoid the problem you are having

Yeah MK1 Dizzy. Ill be playing with it this weekend and ill take some photos and post them up ASAP.

Im using the Mazda 323 GTX Cap on a MK1 GTI Dizzy and a Mazda 323 GTX Rotor button to suit. However the MK1 Distributer itself needs the shaft (that joins off the camshaft for where the rotor button sits) needs to be about 4mm longer so to speak.

Im not real sure what chinnys idea was with trimming the shaft 4mm? Seems odd!

Im thinking of adapating the MK1 GTi rotor button to the 323 Cap and see how i go there...

WEll i couldnt adapat the GTi rotor button to the dizzy cap so i ended up adapting the 323 rotor button with the 323 dizzy cap and guess what It worked. Fitso nthe shaft nice and snug! Although it looks kind of dodgey the wya ive grinded back bits of the plastic it doesnt reallyt effect it it in the way it operates at all.

The rotor button fit onteh shaft with only like 1mm clearnace to the Electrical cap for the dizzy compenents.

I also trimmed back the plastic as seen in these photos so the rotor button sitted cleanly on the shaft. Only possible issue i might have is with the distance between the rotor button centre metal piece thingy and the dizzy caps centre button. Its about 5mm gap. However at full throttle whilst driving the car drives fine and doesnt miss fire or play up at all etc..

So the parts i used were:
- Mazda 323 1988 1.6L GTX rotor button $12.00
- Mazda 323 1988 1.6L GTX Distributer Cap $30.00-$54.00 dependsin where you get it from
So REALISTICALLY this is a much cheaper option then a $300 angle Drive kit!!
