I want to replace my rusted out sills with RHS.

Like so.



So a few questions for those who have done this. (And yes, I searched. A lot )

How did you attach them? Where they welded strait to the panels or was plate welded in and then these welded to the plate or ??? (I'm assuming that no one braces them to the chassis.)

Was there any reinforcing done?

How have they lasted? Any cracking or deformation of the body?

I think 31zook cut the sills out and mounted the sliders off the chassis but it still fills where the sills once were.

Or you could just cut the outside and lower sections off and weld a plate at 45 degrees. Here's a pic of it done on my old car.

I think it's possible to boat up to the first body line on the door without intruding into the interior. Would look a bit weird on the street though.

I just cut my old ones out and stuck the new stuff in.. welded to the panel that was left.. Seems pretty bloody strong.

I just used heavy wall pipe and welded fishy plates to the chassis...

replaced my sills with RHS in the 50 and will never run seperate sliders again. i have dropped the car onto rocks from 3 feet up and no damage or cripleling to the rest of the car at all.

just welded to as much of the body as i could get weld onto. the more you tie it in in different directions the better it will be
