You use the gearbox that came with the other motor and a custom jackshaft.

Then you find another motor...
Or a RWD gearbox that was used from factory with the same motor...

There was a Sierra with a 1300 Corolla motor for sale on Gumtree(may have been Trading Post?) a few weeks back.

Personally id go 4age followed closely by ca18. Both can take a good beating compared to the cast alloy block of sr20

Look say my build up, it shows everything you need to do to put in a ca18det including wiring.

They all will require a fair bit of wiring work to get running PROPERLY. Its not really a question of what would wire up better, more a question of what level if wiring are you capable/confortable with. If you want a straight forward converson the Vit 1.6L 16V is pretty tried and tested. The rest will require a fair bit more work.

if you cant afford that, you wont be able to afford the extra costs and bullshit involved with trying to shoe horn and wire up another engine and have it work properly.
best bet is to just keep saving, cheap g16b come up on here all the time.

its about 150 to have driveshafts lengthened/shortened. Thats $450 to do all three driveshafts. Then you have finding a driveshaft for the gearbox so you can graft the others together, sump modifications, different airbox/induction hosing, engine mounts, gearbox mounts.
In the long run it will be well over your $2400 engine price and could take months.

Unless you have been doing jobs like this for ages, or do them for a living, basically what ever your budget and time line is, double both and that is pretty close to what it will end up at.

I know this is your personal opinion, but both the CA18 and 4age (16v) motors are cast iron blocks, making them far heavier than need be. And I'd hardly call the SR20 weak. Yes, stock for stock the CA has stronger internals, but SR20's are a newer motor, better design, and usually don't need a rebuild before installation, unlike the dinasour CA18's. Its also worth noting thatthe SR20 in standard form (which is way more than any sierra needs ) will last a very long time.
In any even't, all of these motors seem to be out of reach of the OP due to lack of budget or skill.
I vote G16B.

And a third.
SR20 would be my engine of choice if I were to go a bigger motor - Know of one that has reliabily run 1000nm at the wheels on a stock bottom end for several ARC rounds.

You're missing the point. Everyone is trying to point out that the costs involved in putting a non-suzuki engine in your car outweigh the cheaper cost of a non-suzuki motor.
That's why the G16B is "expensive" - they are so easy to fit.
Anyway, you aren't looking hard enough if you think they are all $1500 to $2500. Swifts and Balenos are common in wreckers now. Pull-it-youself wreckers will sell you everything required for around $500. There is a small amount more work to run a Baleno/swift motor, but it's far less than the work to run a CA18/4AGE/SR20/anything else.
The problem with engine conversions isn't the engine itself, it's the gearbox. Getting the length of the gearbox in, sorting a hydraulic clutch ( if fitted) adapting a jackshaft, shifting the transfer etc is a huge hassle - that's even if there is a suitable gearbox for the conversion. (I'd argue that for the 4AGE. there really isn't a good gearbox choice)
Steve.
