i am aware that this topic has been covered millions of times but i still cant seem to find an answer about which is the best for alternator to usefor the sierra conversion. i have been searching all over and people constantly saying different things. the closest i could find was part number 96DA - 10300 - AA'
but even still people altered... can anyone give me the model number and best suited pulley for this conversion? ie with out the wierd neck between the housing and pulley and not overheating pulley and not brakeing belts etc etc..
any info would be muchly appreciated??

i just used the one that said 110amp on it

thanks mate that would be wicked. did your pulleys line up sweet? doesnt whine to much? have to grind the bracket down? what pulley did you use? and also does it heat up? sorry about all the questions but trying to get it right the first time.. cbf stuffing around with it? thanks alot jamie

mine says 94DA-10300AD then under it is says A003T12891 then is says 110amp 1996 CI

you could use swift multi v pullies
i used a pulley off a 2 litre cortina but its dodgy as
i had to grind the top bracket out to fit around the alternator and ground a little bit off the front of the alternator housing but thats just because of the pulley i used
you also need to upgrade the charge wire because the standard one probably would handle 110amps for too long

thanks for that mate. is there still plenty of meat on the bracket for strength after you ground the top? and also with the swift pulley does it ft staright on and will the belt line perfect using this type? is there any alternators that dont require any grinding? not a big deal tho if it is minimal more concerned about pulley lining up etc.. cheers

i think it would line up alright with swift pulley because you use the original ford alternator pulley and just swap the crank and waterpump pullies
yeah there is plenty left in the bracket i only had to grind a couple mm out of it so that the bracket fit a bit closer onto of the alternator
if you are worried about the bracket not being strong enough it wouldn't take too much to make a new one

does anyone know of a pulley that will go onto the alternator so that it lines up with the stock 1.3 crank and waterpump pulley? i dont have access to a rattle gun? i was planning on taking the alternator to a garage to get the stock one taken off?

i took the pulley off mine a dodgy way i to get alternator apart put the centre of it in a vice and undid the pulley using a big ass ratchet
its easier to get the crank and water pump pullies off than getting an alternator one off
i'm not sure if the alternator i used is the same as other peoples because the numbers i've seen listed are different so there pulley set ups might not work on the one i used

i think someone might of mentioned something about a pulley off an ea falcon

if you like spending lots of money there is a company that makes a kit that has a brand new bosch alernator, pulley, belt and to fit straight into a zook but i think they are around the $800 mark

I used an EL Falcon 108 amp. Bosch alternator with integral regulator. Very compact, does not get hot feeding 600W. to my light show. Change multigroove pulley to V belt pulley, upgrade fusible link to 50A. from 25A. Alternator cost me $80 from a wreckers. Hand file out between legs, (alternator's, not yours!) slide in place and bolt up-it's that easy. Cheers.

you make it sound so easy i wish i knew that before i tried to find a ef 110amp (mitsubishi) one i think i got the only one at a wreckers anywhere in tassie

what alternator did you get the pulley off that you used?

i asked a local mechanic if he had any of the mitsi 110 amp ones, he pulled out a box full of them and said take your pick. $30 each so i got two.

I used an EF 100A alt with a V belt pulley off an XA Falcon 6 cylinder bosch alt.
I used the spacer ring (19mm ID... 4mm thick)from an Email XY 6 cyl alt.
Probably not the easiest combination to duplicate but thats what I had laying around.
Works great for me.

PS: I recently replaced the alt with a 110A version and pulley swapped straight on and lines up same.

when doing this conversion did you have to upgrade the charge wire? and if so wheere does it go? i tried to follow it back from the alternator and after about 20 cm it went into a loom of cables that didnt appear to end up at the battery?? only one thick cable came off the battery and it was to the starter??
any ideas?? cheers

I upgraded to 140A cable. From alt straight to battery. The original wire can just be left off as long as its taped up to stop shorting, it goes to the loom and onto the fusebox.

i couldn't find wire rated that high so i just went to supercheap and they sell 125amp wire by the metre its like 11bucks a metre and i ran that straight from the alternator to the battery

19mm seems to be a fairly common size for alternator shafts. I used bits from my extensive ford parts collection but if I were you I'd try an auto electrician. Most of them have a bin full of old alts for exchange repairs.
If you can't find a suitable spacer/pulley you might want to change bottom pulley and water pump and run a multi-rib belt.. Something to think about.

Auto elec will advise you on right size cable. I got mine from Supercrap. Sticker on the side of the roll said 140A.
Just put a ring terminal on both ends and wire straight from alt to batt. A fusible link wouldn't hurt if you can get one suitably rated.
