G'day G'day.

So the Soft Top on my Jimny is looking pretty ratty. It doesn't leak but the zippers are getting really stiff and the velcro is all buggard.

So i'm thinking about replacing it or having it repaired.....

I haven't made any calls but I'm assuming that replacements from Suzuki are super expensive, if they're even available. So I was thinking of either seeing a canvas maker or car upholsterer.

Has anyone ever replace the soft top on their Jimny's? If so, howd you go about it and what was the cost.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Buy a pre made one. It will more than likely fit well, and still cost less than a custom one from an upholsterer.

In the uk the replacement soft top we use are made by monsoon.

Yeh I was having a look at that... Are they pretty good quality?


I reckon it'd be pretty pricey to ship to AUS.... and the exchange rate isn't great either! haha.

I'll price up an upholsterer for a replacement I reckon. It might not be a cheaper option but worth asking.

Yes the monsoon soft top's are good quality very well made.
I got one on my 2002 jinmy jlx soft top it's been on there for 3 years and still looks like new.

So i've just contacted Daphne at Monsoon 4x4 and they can get a Mk2 Soft Top to me in Victoria for 450pounds which is about 700bucks.

Not bad considering that I went to an upholsterer near me and he wanted about 300 to repair it or 1500 to make a new one.

They seem to be pretty good service so I think i might go with that option.

So i did a bit of shopping around.... Suzuki in Berwick told me that they couldn't supply me with one at all.

I went to a car upholsterer who told me he could repair mine for $400 or build me a new one for $1500.

So I got in contact with Daphne from Monsoon4x4 Soft Tops and she was very helpful and informative.

I today paid for a Mk2 Replacement Soft Top and she reckons it'll take about 5 days in the post, which I think is pretty good!

Cost me $700 aus dollars. Not bad I reckon.

Will post pics when it comes.

a new sierra top is normally 300-400, for more material..

There is the advantage of them being more common though. More competition.

Yeh well I suppose when $1500 is the alternative, $700 seems alright.

But you're right. 300-400 would be much more deisreable. Reckon you've banged it on the head there, sierra's much more common... All about supply and demand.

The exchange rate is frickin awesome. Up from circa 0.45 pound to over 0.6 pound to a dollar since the pound bombed it around 2009.

The aussie dollar is amazing compared to most currencies compare to historically in the years up to around 2009. Buy overseas stuff while you can, and you don't have to pay for the GST on cheaper items, make sure the UK company doesn't charge you their version of GST they call it VAT.

Yeh nah i saw that VAT thing on there and wondered what the heck it was. But then I changed the shipping country to Australia, and the VAT price was gone and the international shipping was cheaper than it anyways! haha.

It's a good time to buy from the US that's for sure.

Well my packaged arrived yesterday. Pretty flamin good I reckon for international post.

Here is a pic of it all unpackaged! Looks brill, the stitching looks really good quality and from what I can tell the pop buttons go together really nicely.

It would have been good to have the option of tinted windows. But beggars can't be choosy. Hopefully get a chance to install it tonight.

Well i got the soft top installed and so far so good! The MK2 conversion kit was pretty easy to install and the instructions were bang on.

It's really handing being able to fold the soft top back without actually having to take the whole thing off.

The only thing I noticed is that the canvas seems to be alot thinner..... Dunno if that's a good thing or a bad thing.....

Anyways... money well spent. I'm heaps happier with the look now.

Hi. I've been searching everywhere for a replacement canopy for 2001 Suzuki Jimny. (NSW)
I noticed there are heaps of soft top jimnys in the UK & I found the monsoon site. Then saw your posts.
How is the Monsoon canopy holding up?
My original canopy is a wreck. I'm thinking of ordering from Monsoon.

The canopy is holding up pretty well. The zip did break once but they replaced that under warranty. I'm pretty happy with it. The only thing i'm not stoked about is that the sun roof stretched a lot and is pretty sagged. But it works well and is very good looking. It's heaps better that I can now drop the back part down without having to remove the canopy.

Where are jimnybits? I live in a remote area nsw. That hard top canopy looks good. I bought the soft top in Darwin - perfect. But now I live in freezing snowy mountain country.

Oops. Found it. Didn't realise its in UK. That would be expensive. Guessing that there is no-one in Oz.

yeh there are in the UK, sorry forgot to put the link... lots of ppl here have bought stuff from them with no problem whatsoever... but that canopy is bit pricey tho... if you have the $ for the asking price just send them an email asking how much for shipping to oz, they should know, as many ppl here buy stuff from them
