Morning All
I've got a 2003 GV Auto and I've been having a bit of a poke around the button plates. What I found weird (but maybe it's normal) is that there were wires going to the button plates. I decided to take a photo of them and ask everyone if you know what would normally go there, I'm assuming on the models up from mine. Or what the wires are for (does that mean whatever they do is already wired and I just need a button?).
It might sound like a noob question, but I am a noob and I'm a curious noob. I like to have a look at things and what's behind things
Anyway, I've attached a photo and numbered the spots incase anyone might be able to shed some light on the subject.
Thanks heaps!

Ejector seats
I think some are seat heaters, some are fog lights and things like that

Ohh, I like the ejector seats.
So would the fact that they are wired but only have a fake button mean that if I put a real button there, whatever it is would work?

Generally no. If there's no button then usually there's no component at the other end.
Edit: Too slow

The buttons are for: front air locker, rear air locker, compressor, rock lights.
All the parts are fitted, you need to supply the buttons for plug and play.
How cool would that be

Thanks - so what goes in slot 3? Or is that a big pen holder or something? The rubber bottom makes me figure it's just a very weird shaped holder or somthing.

I would assume that they are provisions for headlight leveling, heated door mirrors and maybe front fog lights.
I have seen in the 2 blank spots next to the climate control rotory dials, a switch for rear fan and 4wd activation. These are most likely for newer XL-7 from USA.
In Spot 4 & 5, these are for heated front seats. Again, most likely for XL-7 from USA.
In position 3, I have mounted my switch for the ARB air compressor. It doesn't really fit anywhere else.
